i HIGHLY doubt they claimed it wasnt a classic and referred you to Suncorp, you dont have to own a classic car to be insured with Shannons, they now insure any car.. you just need to qualify as a motoring enthusiast.. so they basically ask you a few pre-qualifying questions to get you into the system, then they can quote you on any car..
