Lets say that you're involved in an accident that's not your fault and the other driver involved is in car belonging to someone else.
They can't give you their details as they don't have their license with them. Would you take their word when they give you their name and address and that they really do have a current license and will show to a Police station later.

Not about common sense, the question was about laws from different states and how they apply interstate.
I was simply highlighting that what applies in one state can differ from another which is what the question asked eluded to.
