I'm curious if all those children belong to the two adults though, I think there will be hell to pay from some parents if they're not...

Anything short of a jail sentence would be a travesty, IMO.
Unlicensed, drunk and I'd suggest unlikely to have the ability to have 10 children sufficiently restrained in the 4WD? |

7 of the 10 kids in the car apparently 'belonged' to the mum (the driver). Oh, and don't worry about the cans of booze in the car...you, me and everyone reading this forum has no doubt paid for those. I'm sure the mum is just fine. Say no more.

Disgusting story but unfortunately not surprising.
Anyone note that there were 12 occupants and a Pajero only has a max capacity of 7 with the third row option. That means 5 children were unrestrained, guarantee the adults were in the front with seat belts on (or at least the option of wearing one). Seriously, just throw the book at them, max penalty thanks.

According to the 6pm news, only one of the kids were restrained. How at least several kids weren't thrown from the car or crushed by it when it rolled is beyond me.

Where was the Police Safety Camera? Surely this would have prevented the accident!

lets face it, the law that is will still come downn harder on an enthusiest that sticks the tail out a little on a wet road, this comes into the the same catergory as armed hold ups, breaking an entering etc... their theory on stpping hoons? confiscate their car, my theory on these people.. confiscate their kids, no excuses no bullsh!t, like driving without a licence, three months jail time minimum, i would be mu7ch happier my money paying to feed these people in prison than feeding those who cant be stuffed getting a job

Has anyone else noticed lesser RBTs these days or is it just me? It must have been at least a couple of years from memory since I was last stopped for one.

Highway patrol closed down my towns entire main road and where breath testing everyone who went through, I could have easily avoided it but I didn't bother because I had nothing to hide, only to be met by an arrogant cop. The other two times where just outside of work in the Tullamarine industrial area, they have truck stops or something there on the side of the road, and they where pulling everyone into them. Never has a copped pulled me up for an RBT. |

Wouldn't expect anything less from a pack of bogans.
So was the car licensed to carry 10 or not??? Being a Pajero I doubt it but it's deceiving of the article not to clarify.

there used to be a rule that as long as all the seatbelts were used, you could load additional people in, but i'm not one for reading all the fine print and i'd imagine that law has long been made redundant.
if 7 of the kids belong to the woman, then i'm assuming the other 3 belong to the bloke? either that or the parents of the kids had no idea what was going on. no parent in their right mind would allow another person, who had obviously been drinking, to transport their children. this is more than just having an accident in a motor vehicle. this is about the fact that they could have potentially killed 10 kids through their own stupidity/selfishness/thoughtlessness etc etc. they should be punished accordingly. attempted manslaughter may sound harsh... but is it? |

Not harsh at all mate, what would the headlines say if half of them have died???? They dont deserve benefit of the doubt, lock them up, before they get labelled as a hoon, lets face it, manslaughter would be a lighter charge than hooning these days.... maybe im just a sceptic

Basically just a bunch of braindead morons that ought to have been sterilised. It's a snobbish presumption but I'll bet there are at least three or four different fathers between those woman's seven kids. Natural selection came close for a second there.

I can't put to words how disgusted I am to hear this, far out... Some people need some good bloody corporal punishment IMO.
I got pulled over once for a license check (I think) and a EBT, but I think it was just cause of the red P on the back of my car, as I could tell he saw me then thought "Oh bloody P plater in a Falcon, better check him out" Was a nice cop though and everything was fine. Only ever been through 2 RBT Vans before though, rarely ever see them. |

As the ancient saying goes: "you gotta have a licence to own a dog...but any moron is allowed to have kids..."
I'm not commenting on this particular case, but it reminds me of a peculiarity of road accidents stats that was brought up about the Northern Territory a few years back...they said that stats showed odd things like a single vehicle accident with up to fifteen injuried people. It was explained easily when police said you would turn up to an accident on a remote road and find a crashed Landcruiser Ute with four aboriginal adults jammed in the front and another eight adults and kids (or more) riding in the tray. And yes...there must be a seat belt and proper seat for EVERY occupant... |
