Default Speedo tampering

One day justice will be served on those who scam and fraud like our local Ford Dealer in Thornleigh. This bloke is still in business and still doing his tricks. What part of our state Gov looks after car yards? They are doing a poor job.

Hi and welcome to AFF.
You only have one post, so not sure if this is genuine, or if you are directly into complaining about something in your first post.

Have you bougth something from this dealer, and been ripped off? Or do you have evidence that a specific car offered for sale suddenly has less K's after being prepared for sale by them? Not sure which state you are in. In WA I feel the motor trade 'mafia' has too much power to regulate the licencing needed for selling car or doing car repairs etc. In addition the consumer protection will be all over it if you have evidence you have been ripped off by illegal tricks. Cheers

How do you stop this?
Mandatory odometer readings recorded at time of sale, rego transfers and at annual inspections.

It's very hard to reduce odometer readings if the government has the last reading on file.

And then they need to have huge fines or gaol for people who persist....

Couldn't have said it better myself. Make it mandatory to provide the odometer readings yearly when you pay rego.

I know - why don't we make road worthies mandatroy every year, so they can record the ODO and ensure the cars are safe for the driver and other road users - that would be novell ;o)

In NSW the odometer reading is recorded on your "pink slip" (RWC), every year at the annual rego inspection, so the RMS should have a somewhat accurate reading on file year to year, assuming they actually keep it, we don't need a RWC to sell a car or transfer rego in NSW, but maybe that would also help.

A goal for these people? What kind of goal should we set?

Edit, just reread, think you meant Jail?

I knew that Gaol would trick up some of the youngsters brought up on a diet of "Amurricanese..

Oh well, I suppose we should start changing our spellcheck to match the bulk of the English speaking world...

I believe the OP is referring to Pennant Hills Ford (also known as Cars Autohaus) in Sydney.

There was a thread on this bloke 6(?) months ago?

What planet was that on? I have repaired, replaced, or upgraded the speedos on at least half of the 20 or so cars that I have owned! Did one only a month ago, had drowned in oil that had pumped it's way up the cable.

My parent's XF did the usual trick of stripping the odometer gear at 190,000 odd kms
but here's the strange thing, it never went backwards.........

Be an interesting prospect, especially when you have to change an instrument cluster...Do it and get sent to jail, gaol, the bighouse, with bubba or what ever you wish to call it. (We're still paying for the scums room and board)

In reality, checking the condition of a car is a good indication whether it's original miles or not.

IMA, speedo tampering has been going on since the speedometre was introduced....The factories have tried to stop it, but scammers will always find away around it. It's near impossible to police

i had a broken speedo in an ex taxi, it broke at about 722,000km. I try hard to get a cluster with similar (not). I traded it for a landcrusier at a car yard on parrmatta rd, (good luck with that one boys).

Speedometer readings have been recorded in NSW for the past 30 years. I know this because I have registered a car every year in NSW and the speedo reading has been recorded every time.
