I wonder what part of the organisation these jobs are being axed from? Not good news at all.

This suggests to me that the order book for the next 6 months for Falcon/Territory isn't looking too flash.

I may have to take back what I said yesterday.

They couldn't sell a Falcon to a division one lottery winner. That is how bad things are at the moment.

Can think back in 2003 we were making 700 driveshafts a day for the Falcon alone (Territory was in the making)

Hi Forum Members, by now you will have started to see reports filtering in regarding some news we shared with our unions, suppliers and employees today. We wanted to reiterate to Forum members information that we shared when we made our announcement back in May. Ford is absolutely committed to transforming our Australian business, including increasing the number of nameplates in our showrooms and refreshing our entire lineup by 2017 and our plan is on track to launch of new Falcon and Territory later this year. As we have consistently said, we will continue matching production with demand. This includes plans in June to reduce Falcon and Territory production by about a third. As you're aware, we have a new Public Affairs Director, Wes Sherwood, who has just stepped into Sinead's shoes. We'll get him signed up as a member soon but in the interim, hope you're ok with hearing this news from me. Cheryl

One good thing I see in this story is that Sinead is no longer doing the public affairs stuff.

Cant imagine that its a job that any sane person would be jumping at to do. If they split the job into two, the bad news public affair director would be doing 99% of the work, whilst the good news public affair director would get RSI from twiddling their thumbs.

That maybe so now but the rot started to set in a long time ago.Never jumped at an opportunity to get mileage out of any good news out there,a no comment was in most of her replies to the media for a very long time.

Hi all, Cheryl again, just wanted to clarify that the ABC website is inaccurate, the production number will reduce to 90 and not 80. Thanks Cheryl

Mate - thats really uncalled for - the PR job is a tough gig, and with the announcements Sinead had to deliver during her tenure, she and her PR team have done their best to at least be respectful, open and transparent as best they can balancing the Ford businesses needs and the employees and fans the news has effected.

If you want to critique bad PR then focus your attention on Holden with the 'We're Here to Stay' PR spin. At least Ford spared everyone involved from that embarrassment.

Today is a sad day, but lets keep it friendly and respectful here, and have the guns pointing out not inwards.

The PR job is a tough gig no doubt,, not sure you get what I am on about though.I'm not talking about the. Last couple of years only, there were so many missed opportunities to put some good spin out there that were missed it is not funny.
Each to there own, that is my opinion and I don't expect everyone to agree with it.

I understand what you're trying to say but I think you need to have a better tact when delivering your message.

That's not to say I agree nor disagree with what you're trying to get across.

She has been promoted to a Ford position in Shanghai. Make of that what you will.

Personally I didn't think she was doing a good job years ago.

I don't blame her exclusively as the culture at Ford Australia is rotten and has been for years. Which has helped contribute to the situation they have put their workers in now.

.........

I wouldn't want to work as a senior exec for Ford Oz with Detroit demonstrating a complete lack of interest in the struggling arm here.

I can certainly agree with that, but her lack of any understanding of the changing climate in Australia when it came to brand perception, the real impact of social media and what it could do for the brand, both positive and negative was always dumbfounding to me. Ford was very poorly managed in that respect for years in this country.

Ex Ford Australia boss Jac Nasser and FPV boss David Flint, both had a much better understanding of what community relations and marketing was about - and that wasn't exclusively their job like Sineads.

Anyway shes left and they've got a yank now to do the dirty work of seeing Fords Falcon out to pasture. A tough job for anyone.

For what it's worth I would like to publicly THANK Sinead for her efforts. I personally think that PR for FoA over the past few years would have been a VERY tough gig for ANYONE to have to deal with. (What is it they say about shooting the messenger?)
I'll be the first to admit, my blood runs blue, and at times, I've found it hard to stay true to my roots, and put a positive face forward for the world to see.

THANK YOU SINEAD!!!!

Really!!. How good a job could you have done telling the public of a country that your going to retrench thousands. Perfect example of the cliché "Shooting the messenger"

You have really exposed yourself as a typical FORD car salesman with that comment. If you think Ford and it"s PR people have done a good job over the last ten years I feel for you. Remember the walking fingers. That was a pearly wasn't it.The amount of bad publicity that Ford has copped over the last ten years was never addressed.Ever! People can bag on Holden as much as they like for the spin they put out there. How many Commodores have sold in the last few years compared to Falcon? How many Holdens have sold compared to Ford's?
I remember a few years ago when FOA were sprouting they were looking to gain 13 percent of the Australian market. How much market share do Ford have currently? Sorry but these are cold hard facts......

Good one! Maybe I just know the difference between what a marketing team does and what the tasks are of a public affairs department. While you're drawing that long bow, why don't you just blame me for not putting a gun to customers heads in a bid to force them into a falcon. Seriously dude, go get a spiked glove and get a good grip of yourself.

LOL. Your a funny man.You can stick it to me as much as you want but the reality is Ford's PR have let the brand down big time. Ignore it at your peril...
