LoL,

That was kind of Harsh but rediculously funny...

All he did was insult the Hong Kong LPG AU wagons... they do kind of look ugly.

Land yacht (correct spelling is a nice term, thanks. Most people call them Land-going Barges, so thanks for the kind words. Ugly - well 99% of the population think they're ugly so I cant argue with that. However, atleast that makes them cheap, bit like the AU's I suppose : : :Reverend:

Cobra - in todays terms I'm just glad I have one.

Now back to the AU.

Apparently there were a few (6 I think) that came with a factory fitted 429...

Bigblock + 4wd = Fun

They were also considering building XA versions aswell, but the demand for XY 4X4 wasn't great, so they scrapped the idea...

I think there was around 5 of these at the last All Ford day at Kedron.. Pretty good turnout for such a limited build. There turning circle is also 55 feet, or 16.4 meters. Good luck doing a U-turn.

I think there were Ford photos from the era with the spoilers fitted, it would have hidden the leaf spring mounts etc.

They did use Jeep transfer case, diff etc. The main reason they didn't continue with it from what I have read is that the leaf spring mounts fed loads into areas of the body shell that were not designed to take them, basically it was too expensive to design the body intended for coils to take leaf front suspension for the number of sales. Goldie is right too, they used the 6cyl tilted to make room for the front diff, together with the 3 speed manual.

The Falcon wagons, powered by LPG, was part of an environmental program by the Hong Kong Government designed to reduce vehicle emissions and improve air quality in the city. By this year they will have replaceed their fleet of 18,000 diesel-powered taxis to LPG. It was partly a merketing exercise by Ford Australia to get some recognition for the dedicated LPG Falcon, it didn't get much coverage by the press though.

Did you know that there was a reasonable export program to the UK for AU Falcons, Wagons, Utes, Fairlane Wagons and Sedans?

The utes were brought in as LPG only (& Branded as Tempest??) and the Fairlanes end up in the funeral service. the late great George Best had his last ride and a Fairlane hearse.

BA's are also going over there too, plenty ont he web about Aussie fords being flogged there by low volume importers...

Yeah coleman milne import Fairlanes into the UK for the funeral service, as their is no real suitable european Ford.

AU Utes wre also imported into Uk in reasonable numbers.

The AU Wagon thing in Hong Kongs was from what ive heard was a bit of a disaster, they were too expensive like 48,000 $AU compared to like $24,000 for the JDM LPG Toyota Crown Comforts/Majestic. They had more space than the Crown's but they were expensive and ultimately an unknown quantity.

Coleman Mine are still buying from FOA, they sent a whole heap of "pimped" up wagons over. Funny I looked at it and they looked like they might sell here.

Ford sold the AU falcon engine I6 to fit into AC cars in the UK. Not sure how many if any were built.
