It wasn't exactly an original thought by Ford.

Looks more like a Firebird bulge than the Ford one. But there are plenty of bulgy cars throughout automotive hsitory.

The thing I don't like though is that every car maufacturer uses panels. Why do they all copy each other?

The bulge is there for the same reason as the Ford one and thats becuase it has to be the new VQ35HR engine is taller than the previous engine requiring the bonnet to be bulged out to fit.

I dont think the Japanese designers looked at Ford Oz for influence when deciding what direction to go with the bulge considering that the 350Z is styled for the USA its biggest market. Dont see too many XR8's there do we. There are lots of cars with bulges and they are nothing new so I dont see how it can be claimed that any car that that comes out after BA is copying Ford

I agree with this post, I should also piont out that my 1976 Datsun (nissan) 260z had a bonnet bulge, so I say the BA actually copied the zed! :

Hey a fellow Z owner.

So if the new model overheats are they going to fit an optional scoop to go over the buldge like Nissan did with the early US Z's when they ran hot complying with emissions.

Hmm. New engine with a higher intake manifold so the bulge has a reason for being there. From some angles you have to look closely to see the bulge.

No I don’t think that they are copying FPV.

Have a look at a 70’s Mustang Cobra II with it’s non-functioning scoop for an example of a non-functional bulge.

like the others have said, it is an international car. the designers probably haven't even seen an xr8 before. And it's not rice either, as the bulge serves a proper purpose. 230kw from a 3.5L n/a is impressive.

If anything the BA takes it's styling from every other car on the market, especially audi.

M3, both last generation and the upcoming one has bonnet bulge too. Bulges are there for a reason, to accommodate a taller/bigger engine. Does that mean BMW ripped off the XR8 too??? Didn't think so!

Looks ok, but the idea of it being a copy is just, so many cars out there have buldges in there hoods, some not as big as others but definetly not something new to the automotive industry.

Yes I agree the bulges really are not very similar at all apart from both being bulges, also the bulge on the 350z is very similar in style to the old bulges from the 240z and 260z, nothing like the BA.

I think they copied it from the TC Cortina, i'm sure they would have had one in the design studio to get ideas from.

No I've got a 240Z that is slowly turning in to a track car (the old Nissan in my avatar). A 260Z was my first car.

Sounds great, however if fairly original I probably wouldn't molest it too much.

Zeds are the hottest car series going. There is not one I don't like and I doubt there's one I will not like.

My mates 280ZX as old as it was it was still a pimp mobile. Z32 rock and can't wait for the next version

I would have no problem owning a 350Z except that they still cost a shitload even second hand. I would give up my car for one anyday!

If it weren't for the 350Z Nissan here would have nothing. LOL@ Tiida :P

it looks a lot like a retro version as a few others have pounted out... looks similar to the 260z etc...
IMHO the nissan vq v6 is the best atmo motor i have ever driven, not the most powerful, not the most torquey, but theyre so much fun to drive... and the note is gorgeous...
that said i havent driven a late model m3 or maserati, but for something available to he majority of the population theyre brilliant...
we should get the 8 cylinder version aswell if i had my way... four cap mains etc from factory...
