as above. i mean. if people are genuinely after a new one b/c they got a low k motor, then thats fair enough. but i rekon most people just want them to say that they're car has done les k's.
its pretty unfair, imagine if you were buying a car off someone who did that? i doubt anyone here would like that. so yeh, just wondering why. im not looking for smart **** comments or gay "internet arguemants" which many people get into. thanks. |

the only way they get you on it. is when you transfer the rego you have to put the amount of km's on the form.
and if it comes up saying the km have gone down since the last transfer then they bust you. helps sometimes but not all the time as you could lower it low enough to be above the previous amount and will not get detected. this is what i have been told anyway |

Yes its illegal, but how is the person buying the car to check if its the real mileage?

A It can and will add hundreds or thousands to the sale value.............simple as that.
B Some also use this strategy to get cheaper insurance by applying for "limited use Klm" policies. Others just want them as collectors items to sell later to people who want the abovementioned points in A and B !!!!!!!

id buy one because then it hasnt been used much.... less faults with the mechanics side of things, hasnt warped in excess heat, because High k ones go for almost the same price anyways...if its in demand (XR/high series) clusters for AU's

I tried to buy a zero K's cluster on Ebay. It had a white tickford fascia I've been after. Was going to replace my blue one with the white and resell the cluster.

LOL MR fibbles, thats a ripper!
I wouldn't worry if i had a cluster fitted that showed lower KM's, I know what the car has done, and unless i was to sell it, I Wouldn't get it re programmed. |

Wait a sec - I thought they were all LCD odometers on pretty much all Falcons made in the last ten years, and isn't the mileage recorded by the body computer(s), not by the dash?
Wouldn't that mean having to buy heaps of other stuff? I can understand how it works on old cars, just not newer ones.

Sort of of topic, a bit. We should go to the log book system they have in the UK and NZ. The log book list all previous keepers and the milage at change over. For some reason previous owners names seems to be a state secret here in Aus. Also, a car should keep its number plates for life. All this chopping and changing makes it hard to maintain records. Get rid of "State" based plates and have a national rego.

most dealers wind back odometers. NSW RTA dont keep the records from pink slips and have "privacy laws" to make it easier for them and most of them vote labour, Morris's mafia

How many dealers have been caught? Just two months ago the snapper head next to the shell at five dock was caught in the act of winding back an odometer. Scumbags the lot. If you want a used ford go to a ford dealer. My mate just bought a used territory on saturday; 08/06, Ghia, AWD, 10K klms, leather etc, free service and rego till January next year; 44K drive away inc stamp duty. Saw similar vehicle except 01/05 with 45K on it for 45 grand from a parramatta road stooge. My favourite parramatta road idiot though is at homebush, they have "The Blues Brothers" car yard. All done up mind you to be reflective of the film. No copyright infringement for them, particularly when the image they are trying to perpetrate is that of a couple of brothers who have had major dalliances with the prison system. Bassam Auto World raises a few eyebrows on the "SICK" meter too.

I bought a cluster for a low K ED that subsequently drowned on Friday night, but it was to replace the broken odometer in the factory unit. Car had done 110,000klm (had it since new), only odometer I could get was 180,000klm.
As for the clusters, on my sisters focus all that needed changing was the little chip in the back of the cluster which carries the mileage, the BCM doesn't hold it.

Why buy a new one when its quite easy to take apart the cluster and wind it back yourself. 10 minute job, 10,000 k's lost!

I want to find a lower one for my car cos I hate looking at 350+kms on my current one... Seeing as though the motor has been completely rebuilt and most components have been replaced, only the shell has really done that many kays.

Comedians aye? Id like to quote some of you guys but id just be reposting every ones replies! - ive had a good laugh.
Yes, I have been interested in buying an XR cluster, but i would never buy one with more km's than what my ute has already done, but if i bought one with lower km's, thennnn I dont think i'd complain. As quoted by Chevvy Chase (I THINK) "Damn! I missed the odometer roll over to all zero's!!...oh well, hold on kids, were going in reverse all the way home"
