Default Personalised Plates

Ive just managed to get my hands on a set of Mad Max number plates after several years of checking to see if theyre available.
Ive seen quite alot on here in pics and wondered if any of you would like to show us what unique plates you have and what they mean as some arent easy to decipher.

My new plates are from PPQ QLD
Cost stuff all at $445, possibly coz theyre 3 letters/3 numbers
They are the vehicle number from Maxs' Yellow Interceptor in the original film

They go on the XR6 when the rego is renewed in October

As time goes on earlier issued plates get handed back and you can buy, same in Vic 3 letters 3 numbers is cheaper they call it a pop plate..
I recently got GTR 335 on a FPV plate and was surprised that it was available.
I have a pic of it in this thread.

Yes although 99% of people would have no idea what it meant and even after you gave them the reference most still would not know what it was.

I was going to say 99% too but in reality no one would know what that plate means. Hence why it still existed

There's one QLD member here who would know, he's had a replica for quite a while now.

So everything that you do is to impress others?

If it makes the op happy, which clearly it does, why not be happy for him rather then pull out the pessimism.

Cheers Buggo
it was a pretty big thing for me at the time, given the monumental kick in the guts my doctor gave me in May
May, June, July are months i would much prefer to forget, however i have come out the other side of it a fitter healthier person.
Been on several different forums for 7 years now and I choose not to take the likes of pessimism, sarcasm and such to heart..im bigger than that.
Life is short..tho, not as short now as it couldve been

I think the surprise comes from those who are looking for a plate number comes about because these earlier standard issue numbers are very old now and every now and then you get lucky because someone handed an old plate in, one day the plate is not there then checking at a later date bingo.

Over here in SA we are limited to the R & S Series Plates... They are quite cheap (about $75 now) and they are yours.... For lots more money you can get personal plates or for a yearly fee custom plates.

On my EL I had REL*096 which was pretty straight forward but thought I would get another set when I bought the AU trying to think of a plate I could carry over to another car if I wanted to, so I got STR*806... I have people that get it straight away and others (and the a Ford people too) that ask me what it means.....

I didnt know what Max's number was and only seen the movie like 20 odd times...

Pottery, are you saying that you have to pay a yearly fee to have personal plates in SA? Do you have to pay an initial fee to have the plates made up?

Last time I enquired about personalised plates in QLD, you just paid a whack of coin - depending on what style and configuration you wanted, and they were yours to keep forever - no ongoing fees.

I wonder what the go is with personalised plates in other states?

Cheers!

Edit: Sorry for the hijack MFP508.

XR6Toy, you've just gotta see Mad Max 1+2. Fully iconic stuff, maybe a bit cheesy by todays standards, just look beyond that and appreciate it for what it was in its time - I never get tired of seeing them. Forget about Mad Max 3 (Beyond Thunderdome) The yanks got hold of it and stuffed it - IMHO. Another one to look for is "Running On Empty"

Back in the days when we had drive in movies, The local Boondall (QLD) drive in had a triple feature of MAX 1+2 and Running On Empty - you couldn't see crap for all the smoke from the burning rubber when everyone left!

I miss being an irresponsible bogan - sometimes!

Cool Re: Personalised Plates

A few years back I had an AP5 Valiant
and I got for $300
63 APS
with the tropical background
not quite right but close enough
and at one time I had a 93 Fairlane
so I enquired about buying NCI993
and it was available for $195
thanks John

My plate is a reference to one of my favourite TV shows, unfortunately I couldn't go an 8 character plate or I would have had the name of the spaceship "SERENITY" instead of the type of spaceship "FIREFLY". Yes, I'm a nerd. But not as much as the somebody who has "NCC1701" (I was going to look at getting "NCC1701" for the LTD but its unavailable).

Wow!. You did you to get that plate. In NZ we have only recently changed to 3 letter/3 number plates so it is going to be a while before 'MFP508' comes up. I did inquire when I got my personalized plate but was told I could not have it.

What I got was this, a "message plate" so called because of the extra text you can have above and below.

I have seen the plate without the ones either side actually in my town, on a white Commodore wagon, probably the owner's initials.
