Nice pics. It was a good show and I really liked the Ford stands and the ...Hyundais Didn't like the F Type Jag but the XK awesome. Aventadoor and AMGs bloody wonderful. Well worth $22 sad though there were no BMWs or Audis.

That ecoboost g6e was on the hub dyno, and it made 161rwkw, i watched it make 155 rwkw, good numbers BUT the operator admitted it was run in 2nd gear, so i imagine that makes the power figure a little happy, he stated that he couldnt run it in fourth because it wouldnt rev right out or some such excuse, it sounded good for a 4 banger could hear a little flutter on back off too.

here's the rest of them...i get a sore hand typing all the links in...LOL
Don't let anyone ever say that Ford didn't go all out... They had a huge display...almost as big as the entire exhibition by all others. They rented next door and had a 4wd torture track, test drive pits, and many outdoor displays... A great effort. Scott from Ford Geelong gave a very impressive tech report on the LPi falcon to all that would listen...top bloke. The Mercedes lounge had free coffee and comfy lounge chairs. we bluffed our way in...said we left the Merc keys at home...LOL enjoy! Last edited by zilo; 28-10-2012 at 01:39 AM. |

Looks good. Is that Mk2 Ute painted in octane? and why does the GT RSpec have 315 stickers on it?

I went to the show yesterday afternoon and I thought it was good but not enough wow factor from most manufacturers. I thought the stands from Ford, Porsche, Mercedes and Jaguar were good. Well they are the ones I really wanted to see. Even the 2 door Lexus which was on show that looked like a concept was nice.
I was quite impressed with the new A-Class Merc. Now that car is a looker. I am pretty sure it is a Focus size car but it looked a lot smaller inside. It is a much improved design on the previous A-Class inside and definitely outside. I thought the Ford stand was good and I was impressed with the new Mondeo. Pictures do not do this car justice. The design seems to work together well. Even the Ecosport is not a bad bit of gear and if Ford play their cards right could have a winner on their hands with both of these models. Looking at the entire Ford line up though there isn't anything which is a bad car. They have the products to go toe to toe with others in the segments they are playing in. The seats in the Focus ST are ultra supportive and comfy. The Ford stand made you actually go in to have a look. It was simple yet effective in my eyes. |

So...what happend at the holden stand? They are usually the ones that have some attention grabbing show car, concept or release.
Not even a preview of the VF, due in 10 months...

Sydney Motor Show was pretty much indoors as well ... Ford just took their section outside by the looks of things and made use of a larger area.

I was there yesterday too, first time in 3 years since I last went. I didn't think it was as good as before with many brands missing. Was good that most cars, including the Jaguars and Mercs were able to be sat in though.
I enjoyed the indoor Ford display with the wraparound video screen and the presentation on the EVOS. The new Mondeo looked pretty sharp. I thought the FPV's, a Black/Red R-Spec sedan and a ute, looked like an afterthought as part of the outdoor display and the Ecoboost COTF was stuck in a corner, not much imagination with that display. Couldn't find any Ford/FPV/FPR merchandise on sale - was there anything on sale there? Two highlights for me were bumping into Allan Moffat; he was walking past the Mercedes stand. I've never seen him in public before so I asked him if he was Allan Moffat and he replied, "That's what my mother christened me." We had a bit of a chat and discussed the R-Spec. He seems a quiet and reserved sort of person; probably has lots of people introducing themselves to him. The other highlight was meeting Mark Winterbottom; seems a bit taller than what he looks like on TV. Wished him all the best for the rest of the season.

yep...I went out of my way to get the Nissan rep to let us into the GTR. We spent 15 minutes in it listening to what he had to say about it. My young bloke was absolutely stoked and drew a huge crowd all lining up. When we exitted the car he wouldn't let anyone else in. (he explained that a lot of people, inc adults, steal stuff like badges, knobs etc as souvenirs) He then gave me his business card and gave us a name in ferntree gully for a test drive...woo...hoo! Also he opened up the bonnet for a little while...as per the pic above...beautiful layout, apparently one man builds the entire engine and signs it and is responsible for it. They have never had one fail in the last 15 years. Not a cheap car though...LOL Interesting that they will give you full factory warranty if you take it on a track day....! As long as you have it tuned the day before and inspected the day after to reset the tune as a daily. First I've heard of a car maker doing that... |

I liked the ford displays. It was one of the best there.
The Ranger test course looks a hell of a lot steeper in real life compared to the photos. |

I think the new Honda CRV will sell its pants off. Did anyone catch the new Mitsubishi Outlander there, one of the worst model changes I have ever seen the new one is so ugly.

Can I just ask what the real go with concept cars is? In this case, the Ford Evos.
I do get their theoretical idea, to gauge interest in a new vehicle idea, though if it ever does make it into production, major items are always tamed down. Gull wing doors, huge wheels, space ship style dash, fancy seats and steering wheel. Then the final product has standard opening doors, average looking 2" smaller wheels, black plastic dash, standard cloth seats and standard steering wheel. Why not show a concept car that may actually be what you could buy one day? |

Concept cars are there to attract attention, the key roll of the Evos is not to demonstrate it as a idea for a future vehicle, but to showcase a variety of future ideas and styling schools of thought in one car.

Really liked the Ford display and the interactive outdoor display I think it was best in show.
How great is the technology in the Focus! I think Ford's current range is on par or better than all it's competitors. |
