Default New Mazda 6 / Mondeo

Had a look at the new Mazda 6 over the weekend. One of the best looking mass produced cars around IMO. Pictures don't do it justice, looks very Maserati like in it's lines and curves, and not that much smaller than a new Falcon/Commodore in side (very flat boot though). No interest free finance, fixed priced servicing just what looks to be a quality car that people seem to want at the moment, with a better customer focused dealer network (so far).

Only the new Mondeo comes close looks wise (saw glimpses of the the new Mondeo in white leaving Autonexus in Melbourne on the back of a truck a few months ago, couldn't tell if it was RHD or LHD), once again, pictures didn't do that car justice either.

I hope FOA have access to the new Mondeo soonish or they will be left behind again in the medium car market, the engine options Ford are likely to be offering on the Mondeo seem alot more interesting than Mazda's, along with a greater range to tech as well. If they bring out a AWD high out ST version, they may have one of the best cars on the market.

I had the opposite reaction to seeing it in the flesh. I loved the pictures, but seeing it in the flesh I'm not a fan at all. But I don’t like most of the Mazda range anyway & people seem to be lapping them up!! So what do I know!!

Had exactly the same opinion until I drove a proper AWD car in anger, I'll probably have the same opinion of FWD until I drive a Renault or new Focus ST.

To me it looks just like a Hyundai in the pics. I too prefer the look of the new Mondeo.

Are you saying that the Mazda 6 MPS is fulltime AWD? I thought it was 100% to the fronts until slip was detected. Unlike the Subaru AWD which is always 50% to the front and 50% to the rears.

Since when is the MPS a proper AWD? It's a front bias if I've ever seen one.

All I can say is drive one, I'm not going to convince you with forum comments. I had exactly the same opinion. Check out the Top Gear review of the car on Facetube, turn the traction control of and it's easier to do 4 wheel drift than my friends 2010 STI (not saying it's as better car, just easier to get sideway due to the wheel tyre combo).

Yeah im not doubting the cars ability at all. At least it prob wont torque steer like the 3 MPS does.

But that's because the STi is a proper AWD car. If you want to do drifting, then get a RWD.

Personally I would not get an AWD car if I had drifting in mind.

I had a quick look at one the other day and loved it, it's a fantastic looking car, if I had the money I'd be in one of them in a second. The interior looks like something out of an Audi and by all accounts the build quality is meant to be insanely good. It's gonna clean up sales wise. I feel sorry for Ford and GM, they don't stand a chance.

Can't wait to have a good look at the wagon version of the 6.
I have to agree one of the best looking mass produced cars available right now.

Rear end has very similar lines to the I45.

Looks like a good package.

Still think it looks much better in the flesh.

Mazda seem to have the same problem in Europe as Ford do in Australia. No one wants the 6 or 3 because they rather the Mondeo / Focus and in Oz it's the opposite. It's all about the Brand IMO, Mazda is percieved as a quality brand in Oz but not in Europe and vise versa in Oz, cars are exactly the same, if anything you get alot more free kit in your Mazda in Europe than you do here.

I don't understand the fuss over the Mazda. To me personally it's an ugly vehicle.

Front end looks horrid. Why is everone copying the Volvo obsession of no bonnet over the guards? Looks SH&#H()*E.
Ford sales should be the winner here

I thought the Mondeo has been outselling the 6 for years now??

I'm guessing that red one pictured would retail close to 50k? More value in a similarly equipped XR6 in my view

Can you spec a XR6 the same?
You know that saying about assumptions?

56k buys you something with the same kit as a $100K Euro, should be the same in the top spec Mondeo when its released and it should get the Ford Sync thing (if it works properly).

No local Ford or Holden can be speced with the same kit (not currently anway). I'm pretty sure the camry doens't get it either.

This seems like a common thing with Ford, and is probably why it has just a poor public perception in Australia.

When Mazda and Ford build cars on the same platform, it is ALWAYS Mazda that comes out first. That impressive for a little Japanese company on the verge of bankruptcy, that can't sell cars successfully anywhere in the world except, it seems, into Australia.

I'm sure the upcoming Mondeo will be a quality car, but we've seen pictures of it as far back as a year and a half ago, and it's still near on two years away. The public aren't silly about these things, they know Ford treat Australia poorly when it comes to product availability.

Ford will languish in low-sales low-perception land forever until they improve on this.

I don’t know how Ford AUSTRALIAN can get the blame for this? If it gets delayed in Europe because of problems in Europe, then what do you except Ford of AUSTRALIA to do?? Australia will get Mondeo a few months after Europe does. This has already been confirmed as 4th quarter 2014, maybe even 1st quarter 2015. This is ALL Europe’s fault & the closure of European planets. But hay, let Mazda get Australia right & the rest of the world wrong & be in big financial trouble. Whereas Ford is getting the rest of the world right & making very good profits & taking a bit longer to get to a small country called Australia! If Mazda goes bell up, so does Mazda in Australia!!

Not sure what you mean by making assumptions? I've had a look at what the Mazda can do for yours truly versus what a falcon can do. The falcon wins for me, just my view.

Yep new Mondeo is better, with better features too.

The rant about FoA being the problem about delayed launches is rubbish. There is no new Mondeo until 2014.

I'll be getting a 2014 Titanium wagon
