I'd be concerned to even buy from a supplier after seeing that

My employer last year changed suppliers for a bearing we use from a well known manufacturer to a chinese company.

After we had many failures with these bearings disintegrating in service, one of our quality staff visited the factory. He said as far as they were concerned if it looked the same (like the drawing) it must be ok.

They paid little attention to surface finish, metal hardness, tolerances....only basic dimensions.

Its a worry...

Counterfeit bearings have been used by mistake in F1 cars costing races and a lot of money
its well documented and no secret

a lot of expensive equipment is failing world wide because of imitation bearings

I put my money on these brakes coming from the same place that supply Brembo & AP anyway.
They then assemble under son sought of QC program where the so called copies don't.

Brembo produce brake parts in China, they say so on their own website.

http://www.brembo.com/en/il-gruppo/M...s/default.aspx

Brembo own AP Racing.

Not everything made in China is a cheap knock off. You want big names for little prices you get chinese manufacturing.

Surely manufacturing and counterfeiting are worlds apart especially when it comes to braking parts . It's not like a Gucci handbag , someones life depends on genuine quality braking systems .
If you but and know it's a copy then it's your choice, your risk, but to buy and believe it's genuine only to find out too late. We probably all pay too much for logoed products but a lot of the time there is a reason , be it quality or safety .

You are most likely typing on a clone personal computer that was ripped off from intellectual property owned by IBM by the Chinese.

Ever downloaded an MP3 or DivX movie?

Ummm - bit of a difference methinks....
Typing on a cloned PC and braking from 80Klm/h in an emergency situation on brake rotors made from porridge are quite different in terms of risk.
Downloading an MP3 v crashing into a tree due to brake failure caused by substandard brake hardware would feel quite different I'd imagine. One would make you feel guilty - the other would see you with a ticket to the pearly gates.

Obviously you don't see the moral argument.

In any event, most car parts are/will be/made in China in some way or another, including Brembo brakes.

Once upon a time, (in my living memory), we used to call cars
"Jap crap" after a while it became prestigious to own a car made in japan as it denoted a quality product.

Shortly one will need to ask if it's made in Australia, cause that's where the inferior/inexperienced/unskilled manufactured goods will stem from

You've missed the point.
Counterfeit parts are inferior. There is no R&D , quality control , safety testing or any sort of testing really. Doesn't matter where they are made , China , Japan , Germany or USA.

There is some top shelf stuff made in China , outsourced and licensed with global standard QC.
The product in question is not one of those......

theres some dumb fkrs on this forum

Conterfeit means fake, replica, an imitation of something else. Got f all to do with the country of origin, whether the conterfeit or the original, or both are from China or wherever.

How can people trivialize this.

Brembos are themselves fake, ok sure.

Downloading a song is like a fake Brembo, sure, sounds EXACTLY the same

wtf

Good post OP, thanks for highlighting it....

I don't think they are copies or replicas or counterfeit, they are probably from the same contract manufacturer used by Brembo.
1 container out the front door to Brembo and one container out the back for a little added cash flow.

I agree.

This reminds me of the fake Apple store that was open in China. So good that even the workers thought it was a legit Apple store.

I read about this through another site about a week ago and was thinking this is just crap but after reading comments on here, I am starting to think, why isn't "Brembo" or "AP" taking legal action about these copies and branding there name onto something else???

Then brings me back to this comment by GT2:

All this quality control crap, I worked in a place that was certified to ISO9001 which is a quality management system.

The stuff we made was total crap, you can have all these certifications under the sun but it doesn't mean anything.

All this stuff only matters if you get audited and you follow the procedures set out in your QMS.

Everyone says they have quality control and they meet all these standards blah blah blah, plenty of crap products out there, have a look at the automotive manufacturers, they meet absolutely every certification under the sun, GM is still having some issues, everyone has issues.

I was on quality control for a little bit too

For the place you worked in, having a quality process means you could consistently day in day out turn out total crap.
The quality process works perfectly when done correctly.

Well he's not going to afford his 30th Sydney CBD blue chip acquisition by making them to stop cars now is he! Even with his 1999 50% CGT exemption that encouraged a whole new generation of demographic into Australia.

Things were made well because people back then had moral understanding as a society and didn't live isolated in apartments with their only interest in the world to go clubbing and bone some pasty emo chick. You get that today as well as de-feathered ducks/rabbits hanging on your neighbours balcony (maybe his other neighbour is a member of PETA just to spice it up!). No wonder no one wants to do anything for anyone anymore, the multicultural world is cynical and full of self servers.

If they are decent the manufacturer should brand them with his own brand, or nothing at all, not Brembo.

Let the customer decide, but not as a result of deception.

If you want to take a punt on a cheaper alternative then that's your prerogative. Hey, you may win, they may be better than Brembos for a fraction of the price, but the decision should be made with complete information, not disinformation, like that which results from copying someone else's product

Some of you people would give an aspirin a headache

To all who are willing to try these without knowing their provenance I say good luck you., I will stick to genuine and proven brands when it comes to tyres and brakes, or at least, what it was manufactured with ( they may not have been red from Toyota but at least the neighbours cars calipers were most likely genuine).
As for being alarmist, I would call it good common sense to be judicious , especially where brakes are concerned and if you think they are good value then put your money into a set for the Magna.

Can't believe we are having a discussion over whether counterfeiting is wrong or not

What about theft, people care to defend theft?

How bout rape, where do we stand on that?

Ridiculous

I don't think China has the same attitude towards protecting IP as the Western World.

You hear many stories of western corporates trying to uphold their rights like those covered by contract law and getting bruised up by the Chinese legal system.

That's exactly how it works.

The above description is a fair process, the tyre retailer is supplying what the customers often want - rubbish cheap tyres.

Now imagine if you rang up and said "I want some Michelin Pilot SuperSports please, as I've heard they're standard fitment to euros like Ferrari and I really care about my safety"

Retailer says "you're right Sir, they're an excellent tyre I have some in stock for $X"

You pick your car up, and it has a set of longlakes, that have been designed to look like Pilot SuperSports.

Is this a fair outcome?

To be clear, I too have my doubts over whether the linked article is actually a counterfeiting operation, or just a retailer of Brembos. Would love to know more if someone has any insight.

But as to whether counterfeiting is equitable or not - I am amazed at how many posters are questioning this. It's just wrong guys. Nobody wins except the IP thief

No idea either but I daresay they wouldn't be the retailer or if they are even the same operation that makes the real deal. Having seen inside the odd large scale manufacturing facility it is difficult to equate what that link shows with the size of what the genuine operation would be. I saw the link and thought it worthwhile to bring to peoples attention that it appears there is nothing sacred.

100% agree that it looks very small

Maybe it is simply a local distributor that has a bit of machining equipment for minor mods to finished products.

It's conceivable that mainstream distributors are just trying to cast aspersions over parallel importing. Your hear some ridiculous statements made by tyre outlets to try and scare people from importing tyres for eg.
