Default Do you brake with your RH or LH foot? (auto only)

Sometimes when I am following a car, the brake light goes off only sometime after its accelerating again. Also in congested traffic, its on for too long. Its obvious the driver is using their LH foot for braking, and forgets to take it off when under way again.

I would think their brake pads and rotors have a very short life.

I also would think if braking with your LH foot, and you then drive a manual car, you would get very confused in an emergency braking situation.

The beauty of the lazy man's car (auto) is your left foot can sit on the footrest and do sfa while the right does all the work...

It also means i only have to take off one shoe. Some strappy womens shoes can take some time to get on and off...

I usually brake right foot in an auto, unless pushing hard, and then have to try and relearn left foot braking.... (Which coming from a manual usually means once or twice almost going through the windscreen!)

This is my pet hate.. sometimes i want to jump out of my truck and amputate the persons leg that is infront of me..
nothing worse than someone resting there left foot on the brake pedal, regardless auto or manual.. there is no need for it, PLUS it is a danger to drivers behind the vehicle, might as well have blown brake lights.

phew... that felt good.

I bought an auto because I wanted to be a lazy driver.. so of course I only use the right foot.. would take to much energy moving my fat left foot from its nice cosy resting place on the little resting pad that is in the car :

Keep to the feet please.

Next thing we'll be talking about those that have a problem needing to keep their car roof up with their hand on it, arm hanging out the window.

Same. People do not realise how dagerous it is and that it is pure slackness.

I brake with my right.
Left foot is a bad habit, in emergency braking, if u use left the next time u drive in a manual u will do same. Very bad.

my dads been a cabbie for about 14 years now... his poor right ankle looks like an elephant foot now... it gets soooo swolen... using your left foot is wrong and dangerous, not just to you, but everyone else too...

I've been left foot braking ever since I bought my first auto in the 70's and couldn't see the value in leaving my left foot there doing nothing. It's also a safety factor in that if I see a situation developing that may require braking, my left foot is hovering over the brake pedal ready for instant response.

When I drive a manual I revert back to right foot braking and have never been confused in emergencies. When I drive a manual on the track I use right or left foot (ala Murphy) depending on what's required at the time.

Funny thing... when I used to drive an auto. I would use my RH foot to brake in the dry. But when the roads were saturated after rain, I use my LH foot. Reason being that I could brake quickly without causing the wheels to lockup which sometimes happens if I use my right foot.

In conclusion... either.

I brake with both I use my right foot when I am braking from speed and my left when I am going slower so I can keep my right foot on the accelerator just to keep the revs up a bit so I dont stall. I realy need to set my idle a bit higher.

I thought I'd be clever one day and try left foot braking after watching a driver do it on TV.

Let's just say I will leave it for the track and I'll leave my left foot on the foot rest, where both of them belong.

I have started using my left foot lately. I started doing it to see if i could get used to it. I notice i brake harder when im using my left foot, but then again i kick with my left foot so that might come into it. I notice i have a lot better reaction times this way.

It just seems un-natural for me, to brake with my left foot.

I very rarely drive a Auto, but even if I do, I still can't use my left foot.

I went from driving a manual for years to an auto, I just had to do something with the left foot.
