I decided to do one for our 1982 Celica, as we only use it maybe once a week, sometimes only a couple of times a month, so perhaps a more "specialist" insurance might be better than the "normal" Allianz one we have for it and the G6E. I went through and did the online quote, and then hit a snag when I got to the end. I put down a figure for "sum insured", and put down what I considered a reasonable sum...$8000. I mean, it's literally like new, it only has 140,000km on it, and only a couple of mods, but otherwise it's in outstanding condition for an '82 Celica. When I got to the end, it said that was too high an amount. I had to keep going back until I got down to a figure of $5000, and then it would let me do a quote. I said usage was only a few times a month. Then, after putting in that value which I consider way too low for the standard of the car, I entered our no claim bonus discount (got off the paperwork from Allianz) of 60%, I still came out with a premium of over a hundred bucks more than we pay at Allianz for full comprehensive, being able to use the car every day (about $460 compared to $340 with Allianz). Do people with more experience dealing with Shannons think I could get a better deal if I just rang them and did a quote over the phone? Or would the end result still be pretty much what the online quote is? |
