Maybe because the commodore boys don't complain at the after sales service they receive with their cars....
That does play a part in buying a new car.

Beta was better than VHS.
HD DVD was better than Bluray. Perception is reality.

Marketing, advertising, numerous stories about the Falcons imminent demise in the media and the fact that many Aussies only see the Falcon as a taxi, and today in 2012 the name has no aspirational value to gen x, despite it being a brilliant car.
We all know it's great, but active members on this forum represent less than 0.01% of the Aussie car buying public... |

I think the taxi thing would play a bigger part then you think.

I have had mainly Fords, and am on my 2nd GT. BUT, going to move to a VF HSV Tourer not only because I want the extra space, but FPV royalled me when they brought out the 335 less than a year after the FG - same model, etc. Real bad planning and loss of a customer! |

because prople are of the mistaken belife that a commodore is the most Australian product but Australian content in Commodores had been dwindling over the years. the falcon actually have more Australian content but many are easily fooled

Have driven many 6.0L Calais and SSV's. For me the answer is simple, for around $35-40k you get something that looks nice, drives nice and plenty of easy, simple V8 grunt and a lovely sound from that stock exhaust. Some things on the VE are not to my taste, the hand brake and some of the interior fixtures.
I love my XR8 make no mistake and in many ways it still holds a candle to the VE SS but Ford do not offer this sort of package for the price I mentioned. Yes the XR6 Turbo is Fords answer, but for me its the wrong flavor.

Jesting aside, the whole knuckle dragging, pathetic, no reason excuse of 'because it's a Ford' is getting bloody old. I've been hearing it for eons. Sick to death of hearing this stupid lame *** reasoning backed with no factual evidence, unbiased reasoning or intelligent responses WHY.
Pro Holden enthusiasts need to come up with new, intelligent answers rather than this broken record drivel. Or is that too much to ask??? PS. I have driven both back to back. Both have pro's and con's. But it depends on what aspects you want to focus on. I find both do their job well but some aspects shine brighter than others when you place them back to back. In saying that, I'd still pick the Ford over the Holden, no, not because I have owned plenty of them in the past, but because I expect a certain level of refinement which I found the Holden lacked. Im by no means a fan boy either.

So the FG GT 315 had 2.5 years on the road before they brought the new one out. Look at what HSV did, brought the VEI Tourer out then replaced it about 5 months later with the VEII...

OK, I think they sell as they have a great SS package. AND they offer more body styles! NA pushrod V8 with plenty of power and character. Often too, it's a sharp deal money wise. To some extent after almost 30 years, the V8 ( especially manual) option is alive and well and plenty of people love it. Driven SS manual, and SS auto wagon with cylinder shutoff and both were great products, with that raw power that brings a smile again and again as a muscle car does. It's the halo of the range.
HSV take this formula and continue and enhance it, and have done for ages. Driven HSV GTS with pretty much every option including the launch control on the manual and it was exhilarating, raw and mostly FUN. The cars have been this way for a long time and have great loyalty. My own cars are Fords, one a pushrod Windsor V8, and I love it for the same reason. Disclaimer, I think the Miami one-ups all these, but where is it in a Ford badged and affordable 'bang for your buck' product that has been available and is a known quality for 30 years? And where is the wagon? |

Holden need to look at the Aurion V6 for refinement. I did a couple of days in Rocky and Gladstone for business last week and had an Aurion hire car. The handling was pretty average but that motor gets up and goes well for a "family" V6. Very smooth and responsive. It's a shame it doesn't power the back wheels.
