I have the records of what plate number they were first registered with but that would probably not help him these days as no doubt it would have changed by now and then you would need to have someone in licencing help out to track the current owner of that plate etc. which would probably cost them their job. If he has a record of his body number or engine number then best best would be to quote that to some of the clubs to see if it now belonged to one of their members.
Interestingly enough when I got my E49 inside the owners handbook it had the original owners name and address, I looked him up in the phone book and bugger me if he didn't still live there! Was a doctor type from Kalgoorlie who had a Phase II, and then a Phase III before then trading in the HO on the E49. Said it was the best car of the lot of them too, LOL. Even though people on here wouldn't want to hear that :->

If a car is manufactured,sold with it's original equipment(plus any dealer or factory add ons) it's an original car..Take anything off it and replace it with non factory item it's not original.Not having the original engine in (especially) a collectors car definitely drops it's value..
