Its a disappointment alright! Forget the concept, the real thing is pretty damn ordinary to put it politely.

As great as it is, as great as it will be, I still don't see how it would take 86/BRZ buyers away.

Completely different buyer type in my opinion.

Something just doesn't look right, I'm not sure if it's the size of the wheels/offset in relation to the size of the wheel arches.

Reckon the wheels are the biggest issue with it. Photoshop off an sti forum improves it no ends.

I think the wheels are the let done, being dark they make the wheels look smaller I think. I just sold my current model WRX, was an awesome car, but the interior left a lot to be desired...
I actually have the Subaru pre order page open, for the first 100 into the country, its filled in, just trying to justify clicking the ACCEPT button!!!

The interior looks like it came straight from 2005, not impressed. Maybe it will look better in person.

I like it, looks more like a liberty than an impreza.
I personally think it looks heaps better than the previous model wrx which is bloody shocking, this one looks more refined than just a boy racer mobile.
It gets my vote
I fully agree that the wheels and suspension height are just poo. makes an awesome looking car look not so awesome...

I remember all the ho ha about how it was going to be a completely different car from Impreza, but essentially it's mostly all carryover Imprezza underneath, and even carries over some body panels like the bootlid, roof etc.

Rear end looks ok but its so watered down from the concept its not funny. Came out pretty weak looking in the end. Maybe wait for Sti to reserve final judgement.

That photoshopped wheel upgrade does make for a big improvement, also helps that the photo shows a particularly flattering angle of the car to start with.

But from side on, with that MASSIVE front overhang, front wheel hard up against the front door, crap looking quarter windows in the front door... Rubbish. Not much a fan of the rear door window line either.

Its all so far removed from that concept you gotta wonder why they bothered?

I'd take the 86.

Default 86 buyers to flock to new WRX?

The only thing I see going for the new WRX is talk that MrBishi won't be continuing the EVO.

From certain angles it looks like the new Holden just with a bonnet scoop.. which is pretty poo-bah in my books. The rear especially with the 4 exhaust tips.

Also carbon fiber is getting a bit overrated in all modern day cars - especially fake carbon trim. If it ain't proper carbon fiber, don't put it in the car.. like Chevrolet badges it's just making it something it ain't..

I think automotive designers are running out of ideas and in their desperation to create something different are designing such utterly stupid looking cars that are getting worse and worse every year.
This is a prime example.

From the side, to me, it just screams LANCER.

I'm not sure what I don't like about it. It looks quite good, seems to fit the current trends etc. Does it look like a ball tearing rally bred monster? No. Could you drive it to church on Sunday without looking like a ****? More so than previous models.

It seems... Disproportioned to my eyes. Just my opinion.

And in echo to everyone else (and yes I'm very biased): the 86 isn't even the same bracket. WRX is like. TRD Aurion. Chalk and cheese to an 86. The 86 is great fun to drive; the right amount of power where you need it and just absolutely sticks to the road.

http://www.caradvice.com.au/261975/s...h-brz-heights/

Only 7 pre-orders for new WRX compared to the BRZ which sold out 201 orders in less than 3hrs... goes to show the difference. Plus I'm not sold on a CVT in a WRX..

I think it looks good and way ahead of the current one. The chassis, although borrowed from the Impreza has supposedly had a lot of changes made to it and does not share much else with it. Not much power improvement but torque comes on earlier as well. We'll have to see how it all works out in terms of performance.

BRZ sold out on preorder because of supply and hype. Australia is the biggest WRX market after the US and Japan so supply won't be a problem so hence no rush to get one.

You still can't get an FG Falcon to drive as good as a MY00 Wrx. People should know by now it's not all about the looks for the rexy and hasn't been for a long time. Stylings always been questionable but you can't take away the way those things give you a thrill when you drive them.

You are right on the money! The grip a WRX gives you puts a huge smile on your face each time you drive it. Especially in the wet.

Having said that, I'm still glad I got a FG. I drive the missus WRX every now and then and I still look forward getting back into my car each time.
