My son has this, and mostly its a joy to drive. If I was going to tow anything, it is what I would use. So much torque you can take off in 2nd without using the throttle.
Over 400kk and that truck engine is still tootling along. And also for serious off-roading, its what I'd want. But a highway cruiser it's not. The gearing actually isn't tall enough to cruise at 110. It also has the aerodynamics of a house-brick. Which combine to make it rather thirsty. It's very susceptible to head and cross-winds, and tbh its a bit of a challenge above 100. But given its already in the family, its under consideration. (The problem otherwise is that the big 4wd wagons tend to be very expensive.)

The negatives being: Cost, most 2h ones are clapped out ex-delivery, I imagine them to still be very rudimentary and industrial in their comfort and suspension, and again the wind factor. Plus I've then got a very specialised vehicle that won't be used as a daily.

Hi Guys,
I went to the second Adelaide Grand Prix with a mate of mine all those years ago and we went in his XC Ford Fairmont 4.9 litre sedan. We drove from Sydney and that car went like a dream just cruising to Adelaide. I know there's a lot of other very nice cars that would be good for a Grand Tour Aston Martin, Ferrari 458 etc but you cant beat a nice V8 for a grand tour. |
