Default Captiva not just a Daewoo but a Vauxhall Antara

Found this on the vauxhall web site http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/vx/carsand...andName=antara
So it seams that the Captiva is a real bitsa, Holden Engine Daewoo built and Vauxhall styling. I have never seen a car that i think is completly wrong for a company like the Daewoo Holdens Captiva.

If you have a look at GM Worldwide they are starting to offer a replicated model lineup across a number of countries, simliar to that of Toyota (which has been very profitable for Toyota).

Saudi Arabia is a good example, what there sell there is bascially replicated here, they even have 4 Caprice models there (built here). They have the Captiva, Epica, Barina (wtf is that called now), Commodore (Lumina), Caprice and so on.

This is possibly where Ford is left behind with the Falcon / Fairlane, if they had a bigger export program they could build a WORLD CLASS car, but to sell 30 - 40,000 here a year, its not viable to put big dollars in.

Makes perfect business sense. World markets dont differ that much. Yes some things are unique, but in general the segments are the same. GM plays it smart by naming there divisions differently, so they get away with it.

So hypothetically, say a Daewoo model is a POS, it can be marketed here as a Holden and instantly it seems to be accepted, or a Chev in the states. Hypothetically of course.

Sells as a Chevrolet in some countries too, so we're not the only ones stuck with the heap of junk. I saw one yesterday near Anakie with EPICA number plates. Why would you be so happy to own one you get custom plates for it :

In the 2002-2003 Chrissy break I was in Malta. My cousin knew I was a bit of a car buff so told me to come along to a main square where Chevrolet were launching a new model of car.

Malta was being introduced the the Chevy MATIZ.....

Nothing looks more funny than those little 800cc buz boxes with a Chevy badge on the grille.

Autobild's review (German mag) says its too Korean to be an Opel, and our wheels magazine says its Holden's new "Seoul" mate! I guess Holdens are pure "good" cars (like barina, epica and viva).

Daewoo have also done this (i know I stupidily owned one from new) The Daewoo Espero was marketed as designed by Berretone, whish was true, The orignal platform was a Citroen Xantia, but then put together at the Daewoo factory with a holden camira engine.

The 2nd worst mistake I ever made was buying that Daewoo, At the time I was a lot younger, never owned a brand new car and was looking at a 2nd had Camry for the same money the Espero cost.

I know that it was built by Daewoo but I had no idea that it was already a Vauxhall, i was under the understanding that it was all new and was built by Holden with Daewoo.
But its a Vauxdenwoo

The Captiva is produced by Daewoo, but sells as a Chev in a similar fashion to Holden here

The base model and top model actually have slightly different bodyshells, which I find absolutely crazy. The first is the version sold as a Chev in Europe while the top model Maxx is the Opel/Vauxhall version. Look at the difference in the side vents for an indication

I wouldn't buy one if they were the last car on Earth I would rather walk than drive such a POS
