We all know Ford has a good product, now finally journalists are realising it. Here's NRMA's review from July OPEN ROAD.

With regards to EcoBoost I havnt read an article yet that's isn't full of praise for it. They have a produced a great product but unfortunately it is still Australias best kept automotive secret

They should be exporting this car and engine to Ford America and Europe it would do pretty well overthere.
A wagon would do even better.

Certainly refreshing seeing something positive on it. For what it's worth I reckon ecoboost is a winner.

Got a good review in this months Wheels too, Vs VE, Aurion and Camry Hybrid. They rated it the best.
0-100 in 6.5 and a 14.5 quarter, VE Omega was 15.6, and they called it the worst engine/driveline in an Australian car LOL. Aurion ran a 14.2 quarter, thats pretty quick for a cardigan car, doesn't handle though. They raved about the Ecoboost's handling. |

fg is a good car, should be towards top of the sales list, totally dumb founded by the current sales, 14.5 1/4 mile for a 2.0 litre in a large car is bloody good performance, full marks to ford engineers !

The best run I have done in the stock BA XR6 was 15.4 Really does say a lot about the 4 pot. It is just so sad, almost criminal that the only place they appear in advertising, apart from every glowing report from car mags, is on the windscreen of a V8 Supercar & an obscure Youtube add. A total waste of development and money unfortunately. Just cannot comprehend.

Just read that in the mag last night. Was refreshing to read. What appeals the most to me is the improved handling! Has more power than my AU I6 also which is also nice. Not impressed with insulation..makes the car heavier and i like to hear the turbo and motor
Still no wagon...SO still a useless car to me! Quite a pity really. And where are the adverts anyway?

While I don't believe the conspiracy theories about ford wanting to kill falcon, it's certainly bewildering why a company like ford would spend so much on products like ecoboost and ecolpi, then not tell anyone about it... |

They wouldn't. They scrapped the LWB chassis so there is no chance of a wagon, least not a proper one. Territory is not a proper wagon. It is an SUV. I dont like anything about them except the AWD system. Boot is smaller. Driving position is not as good (IMO). Its bigger on the outside for not much bigger on the inside. They are heavier also. I probably have more reasons but to what use. So no thank you, class leading or not (and i agree its a fantastic product) it is not something for me. Neither is the Mondeo.

If i had the money i would buy 2, one for me & one for the misses I see that the latest figures on sales is that more 4wd vehicles are being sold rather than fantastic EB4 cars.?????? Most of the 4wd vehicles just ride around on bitumen , not what they are intended for now are tho, it is a big ego thing to say i drive a 4wd , but the fantastic TERRA is better for what most 4wd drivers do when driving around the streets???????? |

wandered around the Cairns show tonight and didnt see a Ford display.will double check tomorrow but it would be the ideal time to have one parked there with the bonnet up.
that was a pretty good read.

I have driven the EcoBoost Falcon and I came to the same conclusion. I'm confident that anyone who drives one will be impressed.
Interesting to see the "4-cylinder Falcon" bashers, and sadly there are a few of them on this board, are silent in this thread.

I am not a 4 cylinder Falcon basher, but compare equipment levels for similar priced cars and the Falcon is lacking in features. Throw the 300C in the mix and Ford needs to lift the specification level. When the VF arrives next year, I am sure you will find the Omega like the Berlina is now..Then the Mondeo specs for the same price, Falcon is the poor cousin. Size and space don't equate to value for money..Hyundai diesel i40 gets around 1400kms a tank!!! Ford just assumed people would keep buying the Falcon, they misjudged the market.

why would you compare a small car with a diesel engine to a large family sedan in the economy stakes? to some of us, size, space, towing capacity, safety, quiet lounge room ride , effortless cruising are value for money regardless of a few less gadgets.

i stand by what i said in my earlier post though , the falcon has things the going for it many of the others don`t, comparing it to the i40 touring , the I40 touring it`s a little better off in kit in some area`s, and economy , but it`s 50k range, that`s in the eco lpi range, so all of a sudden the economy is looking pretty good in the big falcon, towing capacity , torque, power, space, pretty decent comfort, effortless cruising, and rwd ! and it`s built in oz ! |

Falcon issue re sales was never a straight line speed or qtr times.
It is a fair bet to say tha current Falcon is quicker then all of the cars that outsell it. Issue is body size and shape - namely large sedan - those are not in demand accross the board . Families have moved to SUVs (FORD Oz has a major player there) ,young and single, female and pensioners dont as a majority look for large sedans. Falcon might have some image issues but main reason for poor sales is that market has moved away from large sedan. Solution - make it smaller ? It wont be a Falcon any more... |
