Anybody here have any idea what the rules are in regards to importing kit cars from the UK? I'm looking at a caterham 7 with a 3.5litre rover V8 in it.
Awesome!! |

Try talking to one of the larger international freight forwarders (Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, Mainfreight Caro Trans or someone like that) Their phone number will be in the white pages

If you import as a kit or complete car you will pay duty, GST and possible 'luxury car' tax; no real way to avoid it.
I'd also be real sure you can get the car registered locally once you've imported it; Goof Luck!

If it is a Westfeild SEight I know that there are local distributors who make the 4 cyl under a liscensing agreement, they might be able to help. If it is a Dax Rush you might be on your own.
Caterham have done a motorbike (Hayabusa) based 2.6 litre V8 in their larger SV frame, but they are still fiddling with it. Are you sure it is a Caterham and is it one of the later (wide track) one's? The short track ones are meant to be a bit nervous/direct.

You need to have customs approval to import it, which I understand is very difficult for cars built after 1989. Have a look on the customs website (.gov.au) and also your local registration authority. It would need to be modified to meet ADRs, which apart from emissions probably won't affect a Caterham, eg no back seats to fit child seat anchors to.
