Default Not happy supercheap

So today I went and bought one of those portable jump starter things. Mrs battery is dead from not being driven, so instead of leads I thought "what the hey grab one of these, should be handy" I get home and the first thing I notice is it smells like someone has spilt petrol on it, it stunk and I get very sick from the fumes. I have had a headache all night, felt ill etc. Just to be certain I plugged it in, no red charge light it went straight to green, but take it off the mains and no charge, doing a test never even registered charging on the meter. Anyway I am thoroughly annoyed it is now in it's box outside, because of the smell and I will return it tomorrow making sure they smell it. I won't accept an exchange I will have my money returned and go elsewhere and just buy a battery.

That is my rant.

they do have some good 750amp jumper leads... but if the battery has been connected for some time, and the car not driven, then the batter is prolly cactus. this happened to me a few years ago when i didnt drive mine for 3 months.

If you battery goes dead ffrom lack of use - Slow Charge, dont use Jumper leads, it is the fast charge by the alternator that destroys the battery.

I am just buying a new battery. Can't take the jumper thing back because it ****ed down with rain last night so the box is all wet. Should have left it inside.

try charging it with a normal battery charger just connect it to the leads on the jumper pack

With batteries, it is good to get a 4x4 "extreme" style one that can be cycled a lot? Do these last better compared to a cheaper battery, no matter what you do with it?

If it stunk so much as you say and you get very sick from fumes one would assume you would have smelt this right away ?

I'm trying to work out why this is supercheap autos fault

the second you found a prob you should have contacted the store that you got it from not posted crap about a product that may be faulty without taking it up with the supplier first

in my books that is a low act by bitching about something that you havnt even attempted to sort out with them

good way to give a bad rep without seeing what they say

Yeah I bought one from supercheap a while back, had it on charge for 24 hours and still didnt turn over the car. Took it back and they swapped it no worries for a battery charger with a trickle charger built in

Jason[98.EL] is right.
This thread is about nothing. We'd buy a jump pack from superheap about once a year for the taxis and they always worked and started taxis without a problem. We abused the hell out of them and they got us out of some very sticky situations very quickly!

Also i got the old Commodore going after it had been sitting for 3 months, battery was obviously low on charge, just jump started it with jumper leads, took about 15 minutes and 10 goes, but it fired fine and continues to run fine. But that's probably more due to the fact that it's got a Comet battery - most awesome batteries in the world.

I buy stuff like degreaser, paint and consumables from super-shonk auto. Anything else, specialty shops.

Bought a jump pack from SCA a while back. 1900amp and have jumped heaps (lost count) of cars with it, even after it has sat without being charged for 3-4 months. Still going. Love them and have turfed the jumper leads. If I go anywhere, drive in, long trip for a weekend, its always in the boot. Actually its usually in the back of the ute just in case.

These are actually rebranded by super cheap and are the same make as ones found at repco for about 10% more .... and probably else where as well. I do not buy much from SCA but things like the OP mentioned, ALL retailers can stuff up. THats why they ALL have a return policy.

Supercheap has saved me many a time and caused me as much grief.

I usually use supercheap for a tool rental scheme, buy something use it once, normally breaks anyway then swap it for the next tool needed and so on.

My gripe here is not their customer service but their obvious non concern with putting faulty stock back on the shelf. I could not smell the fumes till I opened the box, which I also found not sealed and I will try and return it tomorrow with no box. I seem to attract this sort of stuff it seems. K-Mart sold me a 2nd hand 360, it was returned faulty with someone elses profile on it, yet they put it back on show and I ended up with it.

You're frustrated, that bit is obvious, but I am inclined to agree with those who have said this thread isn't really going anywhere.

For the record I have sold hundreds of these things (I work at Autobarn on weekends) and have had a few come back, I am not suggesting that it is the case here but the majority of them that do come back are damaged from user abuse or mistreatment. Again I am not suggesting this is the case here, rather just pointing something out.
