Talking Hello all! excited new member! why the switch to ford

Hey guys and girls

just picked up my 2003 ford xr6 and im loving it!
have recently had a really bad experience with a ve holden,
dealership and warranties and overall car was just a nightmare!
electrical shortages, leaking oil, chunky and poor handleing!
my first car was a ford au ii tradesman xl ute which i got for work
and after a change of career decided to get the holden...
bad idea....
well i tell you what, going back to a ford is the best thing i have ever done! i could not be happier!
so far it has custom bonnet with engine cover scoop
quad pipe extractors
led lighting
and has been sports tuned.
many many more mods to come!
look forward to hearing from you all!
cheers,
Luke

Congrats on your purchase! If it's an auto, just ensure you fit a trans cooler kit to it to prevent fluid contamination in the gearbox oil. And please post up some pics!

just to clarify, the cooler for the trans is located in the left radiator tank and on some cars it has been known to fail allowing coolant to mix with the trans fluid, rendering your gearbox dead. most people fit an 'external' trans cooler, bypassing the radiator, just to safeguard against this happening. there is no garauntee it will happen, but $200 (give or take) is cheap insurance compared with a couple thousand if it does happen.

i had a ba and a bf2 that had no issues, along with countless e series that also have the same setup.

I don't think there's a single person who's had an AU, then switched to holden and been happy with the product.
Glad to see you're back owning a satisfying car!

Thanks for all the replies!
Just to let you know aswell the BA i just got has been saved,
i presume it was owned by an absolute knob who just used it for street drags, Sometimes when i put my foot down hard all it will do is rev out for a second or two before kicking in which says to me this previous owner THRASHED it! but this does not put me off at all, im actually looking forward to doing it up slowly when i have the $$$$, still runs great im in love with it, bit of tlc and she'll be back to 100%. i presume the reving out before kicking in part is just the transmission??

Is it a turbo

Warped rotors or handbrake drag maybe? What cold air induction does it have, could be air sucking in harder.

hahaha
nah i wouldnt have a clue to tell you the truth have only had it for 3 days now and most mods were done by previous owner who as i stated previously was a knob and thrashed it, so wether its a modded air intake or a problem i am clueless :S
anyone here live in melbourne wanna have a brew and take a look at the car??

check all the intake piping to make sure its not sucking air from somewhere, esp round the throttle body. the rubber can fold under underneath and cause a air leak.

handbrake rubbing (they run a drum setup in the rear disc) would be more of a ssh ssh ssh sound rather than a constant sound.

does it have an airbox? sometimes the airbox gets tossed and the winners put a pod filter there instead. whatever filter you choose to use, keep it boxed.

good luck with it all.

Well then the trans would of taken a beating and who knows if he used to service it or not. A sort of friend I have drives his BA like an idiot and has gone through 3 4speed transmissions. Where do you live
