They reckon Ford might introduce the 2.0 diesel in the Ranger to match the competition.

much of the 10R transmission calibration work is now done in the US so this doesn't really prove or disprove anything

Its clearly a RHD Ranger Raptor, so nothing directly to do with US programs,
we’ve seen this movie before where global Rangers go to America to do all
kinds of reliability testing, maybe a 3.0 TCDI V6 on board?

I highly doubt it. If anything, it will be the 3.0. But I don’t think the US Ranger will get a diesel.

By "in good time", do you mean equivalent to the
a) time between haircuts long,
b) half a scheduled service interval of a Transit Custom
c) fours times as long as a Hilux ute service interval

Ford have a fleet of ROW Rangers in the US. It's nothing new. Various testing is done over there.

ROW is rest of world ie. not North America.

They knew that RR was ROW RHD and yet spun a story from it because they assumed wrong.

so what do you want? the V8 is never coming. there is certainly a desire within the company, but every time people look at it the business case doesn't work. Unless you want a $100k Ranger? Look at the prices the mod companies are suggesting for a RHD Bronco.

there are plenty of other engine options available for a Ranger Raptor other than the 2.0 diesel

I wonder how many high end buyers would be put off by a $115k Ranger, the continuing
delivery of high $$$ Mustang specials is proof that giving people what they want works.

Not if there's zero interest in the disruption of building RHD versions for a small remote market,
it may be better to cede that to a local conversion outfit and maybe the same for a special Ranger.
If the engine bay is reconfigured for a V engine then maybe an engine swap is half way home...

Actually by factory support I meant Ford US providing a local converter here cars at "wholesale dealership" rate rather then having to source from a US /Canada dealership and paying a retail level discount.

Dont want a v8. Just a better engine that can be considered a performance engine for 75K.

Ford knows that RR buyers who are paying $75k now will definitely pay more for a bigger engine,
so I'm guessing that a 3.0 Powerstroke for ~$80k will be the response and welcomed by many.
If Ford offered a near 50% power increase over the 2.0 diesel, that would be a big deal.

Ford Aus but in fairness though maybe there's more to the story than Ford just being mean.
Maybe importers were trying to game the discount system and pocket savings for themselves.

They did. It seriously got the the point where a non-engine Raptor was specced to be built in Thailand, and then shipped over here to have the V8 fitted. It was planned to be built in Plant2. Unfortunately exchange rates happened and the program got canned.

I'd heard from somebody in Ford that were built in Oz, one V8 and one V6 diesel. V8 was supposed to be supercharged and badged Shelby Raptor.

But rumours are just that until it's seen the light of day!

I am guessing that the biggest problem is that it is only our market that would want a V8 Raptor - (Other than the USA) and no other countries would want it.

That said, I am assuming we will see some kind of V6 Petrol Ecoboost model which is probably just as unappealing to other countries as the V8 would have been.

So why not just put the V8 in and be done with it.
