Think army with the Ford, can not remember ever seeing a factory Valiant 4 x 4 unless it was a backyard custom.

Taken from the article link posted....

Not that any of this mattered to the Army, because the military never got to the stage of even field-testing Ford’s prototype, Marsden revealed.

He recalled that during the vehicle’s development, the Army made it clear to Ford that even though the basic concept was right, it was never going to meet their extreme battlefield requirements without the proven strength and durability of a traditional body-on-frame construction.

Clearly this was a path Ford did not have the resources to follow, which was probably just as well because after seeing what else was (or wasn’t) available, the Army opted for Land Rover’s more powerful six cylinder version.

Evo VIII Lancer. Still in my eyes the best shaped Evo. Hard to believe its over 20 years old. Still looks modern.

Are you referring to the 4x4 Falcon Ute? If so, that was a little different in that it left the factory like that, those Holden's were converted by an outsider.

In 1986 I took an XY 4X4 ute for a test drive, it was painted bright yellow, with a fibreglass canopy, and I thought it was great. But the dealer wouldn't budge 500 bucks from my trade and offer, on a $6k price, so I walked away. I ended up with a 69 Landcruiser SWB, which I got rid of 6 months later.

It doesn’t belong in this thread but I often see this car in a local shopping centre car park. Must be a special import.

It’s always parked in the same spot where no one can park next to them.

The build story of the 4 x 4 XY Ute was in 2 parts. They actually left the factory as complete base models, fitted & plated as 200ci with 3-sp column manual.

At a much later date they had the suspension converted to front leaf & a totally different drivetrain fitted. They had Jeep-style Dana front & rear axles & a Warner 3-sp manual floor shift & transfer case. They fitted a 250ci 6-cyl ], which was tilted to clear the front axle.

I'm not exactly certain who did the conversion, but Jeep Aust. had a lot of input. The work was probably carried out at the Brisbane Ford plant on the night shift.

My point is that they were not regular production Ford vehicles.

Spotted an early 2000's Alfa Romeo GTV. Other than the V6 engine, was never a fan of them, but it certainly stood out in a sea of white Thailand Specials.

And yesterday, a ZH Fairlane 500, which was either original or an older restoration. Similar blue colour to the one below.

Speaking of Jags..

https://richmonds.com.au/portfolio/2...-r-sedan-auto/

Saw a Wheeler Dealer show yesterday that had the above Jag in it that is pretty quick.
2002 S type R Spec. 6 speed auto.
Never heard of it or seen one. But, with a blown 253 (4.2L) under the hood...
0-60 in 5.6 makes it no slouch.

I know I'm a Jag man, but I never hated the S-Type like most. The S-Type was based on the DEW platform which was used in the S-Type (and first gen XF), Lincoln LS, Ford Thunderbird, and the rear suspension design was adopted for the AU Falcon and Mustang Cobra. The 2.5 and 3.0 V6's made more power than the equivalent BMW engine, they even sounded good. Yes, I know they were Mondeo engines, but the Jags got VCT and better cylinder heads to produce a significant power advantage over the Ford engines. And the later examples used the same ZF 6-speed auto as the Falcon.

3.0 V6....................

The S-Type R arrived a few years after launch and came with the new 6-speed auto. These cars were the ultimate sleeper, I loved the blacked-out headlights.

The S-Type R used the supercharged 4.2 V8, which Jaguar also fitted to the XK-R and XJ-R. The S-Type R then morphed into the XF SV8 with the same 4.2 engine, then became the XFR when Jaguar launched the 5.0 supercharged V8.................one of the best engines ever made.

Listen to the exhaust clip at the 45-second mark, does the snap-crackle-pop sound familiar to anyone?

I've never owned a Jag, but I love the S-Type. I think they pulled off the retro look admirably with it.
