Either way as previously stated, Holden VS Ford is DEAD...gotta stop comparing this to the FG, the VF is more advanced and designed for a broader global market with GM support...it is the Aussies vs the imports and the VF is the first modern Aussie car that can genuinely compete in my opinion.

The only downside to the commodore package now is it's size, it's still a big car...

Anyway for the sake of Aussie car manufacturing I hope the Commodore goes gang busters overseas and exports pick up, plus I hope to see the Commodore rise again in our sales charts which I think will happen as most have been patiently waiting...Holden's biggest task is to maintain that sales run after the hype wears off...
the only downer i see is the bright interior in that bright airey looking cabin, on a bright sunny day it might have reflection and glare problems, time will tell though, as for BIG CARS......................
big = more sheet metal between you and the other car, big = roomier/airier , big usually rides tracks better than smaller short wheelbase, big usually more suitable for towing, ask the wife ..........size matters

Where's the handbrake?

Looks like they copied some features out of the FG interior to be honest. Look at the auto gear knob, the cup holders and the middle handrest. It says FG to me.

It has an electronic handbrake like the euros, that little button where the old ugly handbrake use to sit.

Welcome to the 21st centry, electric handbrakes are here to stay. I wouldn't be suprised if they don't make it an auto release unit as is in alot of volkswagen group cars (Passat, A6 Audi).

Yeah and how many EB falcon have been sold to date?

I actually didn't mind the series 2 VE. And from what I've seen of the VF so far I'm of the same opinion.

Hopefully this kicks Ford into gear with the FG update, because they have the core of the car right.

The 10 spoke GTE rims are quite similar to the new Calais rims.

Having a Quick look at that "SS" interior, there is only 2 buttons to the bottom left of the transmission, where on the Calais there is 3 buttons (for traction control and 2 park assist buttons) wonder why its missing one of the park assist buttons?? maybe the SS wont have Park assist after all?? maybe only parking sensors? for the SS?

Which is not what Holden was saying the other day about all cars been able to part themselves... maybe only the luxury models will be able to??

I would say the extra park assist button is the traffic button, possibly only the V models have that.

Pls educate me, how does it look cheap? It looks like its the same as, say, the interior of the Hyundai i45. The speedo and tacho look like they could be from a Camry, i.e theyre contemporary.

Your comment is subjective, ergo immeasurable, ergo...meh!

I think the interiors look modern, appropriate, contemporary.

Oh my gawd, did Josh Dowling dry hump holdens leg with this one:

"At first glance you could be forgiven for thinking you'd pressed the wrong key and stumbled into a BMW, such is the technology and the quality of the materials."

Oh my gawd, I think I am going to be sick....

Journalistic biases aside, I don't mind the looks, but it looks like many other cars, in Holdens truest tradition.

One thing - get rid of that damn wood grain - there is no wood in there, why should we pretend.

Electronic handbrakes seem like a good idea. Something Ford should look at with the Falcon as they've had a very shady history of dodgy handbrakes in the past few models.

Nice car, looks like a lot of hard work has been going on at Holden. I see Sharon Gauchi is involved with trim/colours, she was involved with the BA Falcon. I'd say there will be a peak in the beginning in sales, it will be interesting how 2014 will go.

The proof in the pudding will be the base model and the next level up from base, which will see the lions share of sales. Will all that niceness we are currently seeing be replaced by acres of plastic? What will the media centre look like? And the fabrics of the cloth seats?

Its all well that we are looking at the top of the range, but its down town where we will see the real sales figures.

(BTW, I don't have a problem with plastics used in modern car interiors - its a harsh reality of life)

Having read through the last 7 odd pages of this I will say that I wouldn't say no to having one, anything is better than a 4WD at the moment.

Interior is a big step up from VE however still not sold on the exterior, but then again when you're driving the car you can't see the exterior anyway.

Just fixed that one so no one misunderstands it

One point to note with the newer technology cars is longevity.

There are squillions of classic Holdens and Falcons from the pre plastic and computer era floating about but the older first and second generation of the plastic/electronics era are start to fall to pieces and not get repaired.

Even more recently look at all the B series that are breaking widgets on a regular basis.
FG2 and VE are so "computery" that they are unfixable without lots of expensive test gear and trying to replace electronic components with after market is fraught with problems.

I wonder what will happen in the future when the electronics fail from old age...

Quite simple really

In the same way, there will be no pictorial proof of our current age in 100 years time, there will be no classic cars to admire and drool over.

Just look how many E series and AUs are floating around, full of electronic gadgets.

I think of my brother spending the last 8 soul-destroying years ferrying kids around in SUVs such as a Kluger and a Captiva and I think he is the ideal candidate to reward himself with a large rear wheel drive sedan as the kids are getting older and doing their own thing. He keeps claiming his next car will be a sporty Falcon or Commodore. Maybe one day we will see the renaissonce of the large car in this country - hopefully its not too late.
