As I said he wants to use it as a family transporter and likes the V8 grunt and a bit of performance.
So the SUV V8 cars are legitimate alternatives too. Personally I think a low km BA I6 is also a viable alternative (sedan or wagon), the Barra I6 disposes of Ford V8s before it, plenty of torque for cruising/towing, cheap to fix and availability of parts. I think it even eclipses the 3V 5.4 V8 of the BA range. But he just wants a V8. fair enough. So id lean towards BA 3V 5.4 or maybe LS1 with low km. But no Cherokee laredo Glen!! NO NO No! |

no it doesn't, unless you're referring to EB-EL1 which is an outdated and irrelevant comparison. Also the Barra I6 started in October 2002 and is still in use today over 10 years later in significantly different transmission/dif/power/induction/fuel configurations. If we're however comparing the BA 182KW I6 to the AU V8, then no it certainly does not dispose of the AU v8.
no, it doesn't.

A heap more torque in the 3V to the 220kw windsor, BUT the AU is a much lighter package than the BA so thats why the performance is similar. Family transporter - Aforementioned Stato/Caprice or BA Fairlane 3V. Or even an AU Fairlane would be a nice bit of kit. How about the old "reliable " Disco (Landrover Discovery)? Those are V8 and sound good. Aren't particularly powerful though.

Landrover V8's are 3-3.5l max depending on the age. Kinda defeats the purpose if your after V8 PERFORMANCE. Especially as its going to be in an SUV. At least a 4L Lexus is available in an LS400 and puts out about 190kw

Its a lucky find to see a BA xr8 for under $10k...but the km turns him off. He would rather a mint au than a beaten up BA for the same price point. I would agree, dont go buying the cheapest possible example. For under $10k we are realistically looking at AU V8s, some 3V BA v8s and early LS1s. oh and the jeep Cherokee laredo 4.7 which i say Gary no! no! no! |

Series III AU seems the go then. Try the Auctions.
Perfection won't be had for that budget though, however it seems he knows that.

HAHAHAHA, here i was about to say a lot of car for the money. True it does have a lot of KM on it but it's clean and straight with good trim, and provided its had clean oil in it those motors last forever in an f series where the will work a lot harder than in a Fairlane. Only issues are timing chain tensioners and spark plugs. Both well known.

Where are we finding all these T series cars for under $10K? The ones for sale on this forum are all $20-40k?
I vote Lexus Ls400. 4L 32 valve quad cam V8 with 190KW and plenty of aftermarket performance options. |

Id still say they would be worth more than $10k though, probably in the BA XR8 price range for the T3 as they had similar power output. Around that $15-20k for a decent one. |

The worth of a car has nothing to do with its power output, wasn't many T3 te50s made plus are sort after for there great package hence worth more than a ba xr8.

Don't get me wrong, they're fantastic motors and i will hopefully buy one some day, but buyer beware. A quick sift through carsales shows lower km examples with better prices. However i agree that KM isn't everything, the car could be totally fantastic, and drive like new, but irrespective of that it has to be priced primarily according to KM if you want to sell it within 12 months.

Just sold my AU 220 XR8 for way less than 10 grand. If i was after a V8 & had 10k or less to spend that's what I would be looking at. There's a series 2 220 on here right now for $8500.

This is depressing living in Tas when it comes to cars !
For $10k our options are au series 1 xr8, vt ss, mostly with high-ish km's (over 160) or late 90's, early noughties v8 luxo's. There's no way were getting a vx ss, au3 xr8 or t-series for $10k or under ! I've actually been on the hunt for a slick el, ef or au3 xr8 for some time and there's just nothing about that's $10k or under with under 200 thou km's !
