Did Ford actually develop the diesel engines in these or are they off the shelf engines from PSA group (like mine)?

Did they inform Ford about the proposed change to their production process? Did they get approval from Ford engineering? Did they get an SRA? Did they get PPAP approval? If the answer is no then Continental is in for a world of pain.

Yes Ford 'Ecoblue' are all new out of Ford
. PSA themselves are no longer developing new diesel. They are saying electric moving forward.

The old saying of don't buy the first model (or in this case engine) still rings true.
Kind of reminds me of of the 4.2L and 3L Nissan Patrols. The TD42 had less power and torque, but the ZD30 was always a hand grenade, I don't anyone who had a good run with them.

There’s also a good story about Chicken Little...
There was a quality problem, Ford is taking steps to fix it. I think that’s pretty good. I also reckon the 2.0 biturbo is pretty good to (actually owning one is worth something). The vast majority of reviews and other owners, also rate it highly. Can’t speak to the other vehicles as I don’t own one. The issue with the injectors also effect other makes and models and yes it was only a bad batch identified by Continental. The issue revolves around the Piezo stack in the injector during assembly. I believe it affects around 700000 Ford cars globally and only around 2000 in Aus.
At the end of the day things do and will go wrong, that's mass production and a reality, we don't live in a perfect world. The issue is identified and progress on getting a solution as quick as possible. What more can you do after the fact!! |

I gather they’re a Siemens injector built under licence so yeah, I’m gonna say that they were having issues with this on and off right from the start (not a sudden change in process) just too many to “hide” as a one off batch oops.

Continental own Siemens/VDO fuel injectors. (Not saying they own all of Siemens,vjust bits via VDO purchase.)

All the recent problems with diesel be it REGEN or injectors makes me wonder whether
Something like a petrol hybrid is more practical for dual cab utes that don’t normally carry or tow much and are mostly driven in cities and freeways. Even with a similar price as buying a diesel, it could be a way of out smarting the oil companies that Like to scalp people with generally higher diesel fuel prices, as well as forcing down the price of diesel pick ups. |

Hell we would settle just for a normal 6 cylinder petrol at this point.

I think you’ll be in for a rude shock unless it’s doing lots of highway kilometres in cylinder deactivation mode. There’s no way to hide how much fuel those big pick ups use in city running where they get about 18-20 litres per 100 km.
