If youve ever been through the plant you'd know that after running through the paint shop they get put in a holding area until they go to VAP for fitout, so the order they roll off the end isnt necessarily the order they are built in but one thing cant be denied, when the final weld was completed on the last set of stamped panels, the body shop ceased to build car bodies.
Have a read here..

“The car which is currently being auctioned (VIN ending 333644) was the last body to leave the Bodyshop and enter/exit the Paintshop – not to come off the General Assembly line itself.

“Therefore, and very importantly from a heritage perspective, the vehicle in the National Motor Museum in Birdwood SA (VIN ending 333542) is absolutely the last Holden.”

When the auction has been going for a while online it is a bit of an anti climax watching it live on youtube and no more bids.
Stupid price for the ute, no race pedigree, nothing to make it famous, not unique after all there are 3 others.

So you have to ask yourself what holds greater significance, being the last set of panels welded together before the robots ceased, or which order they got picked out of the finished batch to go through assembly.
What the final VIN has going against it is it was obviously allocated to a dealer as stock or an order, so naturally it went ahead in the assembly stage and the museum car was surplus held back for the media photoshoot.
Both have significance but only one holds the highest ever VIN for a VF Commodore, that cant be disputed.

Guy who switched on to the fact that the car with the final vin number was in a dealership unsold, made a killing.

But with Holden saying it's not the last car, the guy who bought it is a moron.

If Holden say the last car off the line is the last car, no amount of technicalities is ever going to change that. Buyer got screwed.

Even if the actual final car was in the same auction, i would still rather the final VIN car. But for more than a price of a house they can keep them both!

Wasn't there much the same dispute with the prototypes, chassis numbers and production completion of the first 48/215 Holdens?
