The drivers name is Jean-Pierre Mouawad, French origin.
But don't let that stop you from calling him a Habibi, Lebo, Muslims, etc. The driver is still a first grade f***wit though! LMCT+ has nothing to do with the idiot drivers actions. That's like someone blaming Tatt's Lotto for busting up their brand new Mercedes they bought after winning the lotto. |

Names don't mean a huge amount. I went to school with a kid whos first name was pierre claude. Thats his first name. I wont say surname or anything. Sounds pretty french, but he and his parents were south east asian. So first names are first names.

Honest question, what probably happened here to cause the failure?
Don't the car companies invest R&D trying to break transmissions etc (eg GM 'Rock Crusher' test). What did this fine gentleman do, that circumvented all the vaunted Mercedes R&D? Did no-one in product development say "What happens if we try a burnout, but leave the traction control on?"

I dont think it would have been clutch related (tranamission, whatever). Modern cars say no before that happens. Id be, at a guess, be inclined to think an oil line to a turbo ruptured or popped off. From memory, the turbos in modern v8 amgs are in the valley in the centre of the block not in the conventional place.

Turbo oil line spill would change things a bit. Is it the kind of thing that would blow when you are trying to drive dangerous/do fully sik burnout?

Well, intentional (attempted atleast) loss of traction, thats not legal. So the blokes getting his toasted car impounded anyways. The dumbest thing is, he shouldnt have let anyone post it online and just pled ignorance when it burnt to the ground.

In my uneducated view, any overheating in a modern car, motor or otherwise the car would say no. But for something to erupt like that so quickly, there would have to be some form of propellant. So amg probably tested things but was never expecting someone to be loading a motor for as long, and with no airflow bar the fans, turbos get hot, rubber melts at some point. So i don't think its so much a design flaw, just a flaw with the driver doing the wrong thing in more ways then 1.
