Though it is amazing how many off topic posts that Commodore, Magna or Camry threads bring up though for respective brand bashing on FFAU. And before the "but it's fordforums and they do it too" talk begins, it seems to happen way more on here than AMC or LS1, Pulsar.org or Skylines Australia.

I'd prefer the EVO anyday, but if u just want a daily bus to work and back with a bit of go and couldnt care less about RWD/FWD/AWD, then the 2001+ magna is the go as a bang for runaround. The interiors are nice enough, carries a load of people well & I dont see many of that year that are broken down. The models before, I have lost count. But as they say, the damage is done since the TP.

The VRX/Ralliart Magnas were and still are quite fast for what they are. I don't think comparing a $150,000+ car like an M3 to a now sub $20k car like a VRX/Ralliart is a fair comparison as the money difference in R&D alone would be phenomenal. The TT Magna owned by RPW runs an 11.98 which I think is pretty damn quick for a "whitegood". The TT that ran a 13.8 has a lot more in it, LSD to be installed and a proper tune with EBC to stop boost spikes. There's even a guy with a stock 3L manual magna that ran a 15.15. It's funny how people will instantly dismiss a product/brand whatever due to pre conceived notions formed by ignorant conclusions. Magnas can be fast cars too, just like Fords.

Depends what you define as "fast". In my book - 15's is taxi territory, 14's is getting a bit "pass'e", 13's is "quick", 12's is "very quick", 11's is "fast".

Interesting articles posted and for stock cars they are OK, but I still think modding them with that much power (even the standard Ralliart) + FWD = crap driving experience. FWD is a cost saving measure best left to shopping trolleys....:-)

I agree with ya there. But in the end, each to their own.

Well single turbo's run 9's.

Back on topic.

If the model that was 2models before the 380 was available in rwd I would have one. Black Xi Verada 3.5 manual. Nice vehicle.

i agree with above it depends what you class as fast.

we might as well start a thread about camry's and aurions being fast aswell

14, 15 sec are every day cars nowadays

even 13 sec nothin special

whats fast? the more subjected you are to a "fast car" the slower they become to you... each to their own but do i think MAGNA's are fast no magna's are NOT fast.
and nore are camry's, na xr6's, sv6's, regular family sedans and the like

thats what i think

i find that the magnas cna be quick ive only driven 2
1- early 90s model... absolutly gutless and lacking power and feel everywhere however was only a 4 cyl
2- 2005 pov pak magna with triptronic etc etc... it SHAT on my EF for feel and power

they are a very quick packag due to power-weight ratio. my mate who has the 05 magna is planning a few things which will end up being a very lights friendly magna.

I think alot of you are not giving enough credit to the magna's.. sure they look like a busted a$$ hole, but you would be amazed at how quick some actually are... You do know that not everyone witha quick car takes it down the quarter dont you?
I know of one in particular that would be nudging the 12's* ( but he has never taken it down the quarter, G-tech times.)
do a search on the aussiemagna forum, search for Boosted Booya, i think he lurks around our forums now, he had a decent boosted magna.

they are stoked one of their boys got a 13.8 ????? ok ok

sorry in my book magnas arent quick, and if they do get decent power and times, they would be scary to drive, with torque steer like a beyyotch

Mum had an TJ Series 2 VRX ... very nice to drive indeed. Deceptively quick in stock form ... and much more comfortable than any Falcon/Commodore of the same era. Better driving position as well and much nicer inside too.

Don't get me wrong ... I do like my Fords ... but out of the all the Magnas that were produced ... the TJ was a best of the lost.

In manual form ... it was a fun bit of kit to drive ... at least it came with half decent suspension in it ... and for a FWD ... torque steer wasn't much of an issue. Sure it'd wheelspin well into 3rd gear in the dry from a good launch ... but wouldn't drag you across a lane in the process.

Mitsubishi actually made a half decent vehicle ... shame they couldn't back it up though.

Stock against stock, the Magna had better then average performance compared to the Commodores and Falcons of the times. The V6s were so much better then what Ford and Holden put out, with the possible exception of the XR6 engines, it wasn't funny. My "low output"(155kw) 3.5 happily revs to 7000rpm if I put the tippy in manual mode. The main issue is the chassis was never set up for performance use. BTW, the Ralliart Magna was orginally intended, and tested with, to have 200+kw. However serious traction/stability issues surfaced. Personally I like my (wife's) Verada wagon, for a family hack it does a great job. But only a nutcase would consider it a performance car, if I wanted a performance family car I would have bought an XR8.

Doesn't matter what you do to a Magna, it's always going to be a Magna, no street cred, unless you drop a chevy or clevo V8 in it of course.
