Even though that car needs a bit of money to get it registered (over $1k), potentially delivered for some buyers, plus incidentals, in two separate posts I have said I think it's probably good buying for someone, but like I keep saying, THAT'S IT. I don't think it warrants people soiling themselves over or pointing the finger saying it must be dodge cause of price (hey, by bidding you may be buying a Nigerian lotto ticket, not a commodore, I am just saying that price alone does not equal criminal) If anyone wants to pay in the 30's for a car like that (which seems to be what you think it's worth : 2 x 19 = $36k and redbook post above) then good luck, but given you can buy a similarly configured car brand new for about 15% more I sure as **** wouldn't write the finance on it. Stevz, you should buy it, you should buy and sell cars for a living. You have redbook, you know how to filter carsales down to just a handful of cars. You will make a small fortune (as long as you start with a large one) To anyone else reading, I put myself through Uni buying and selling cars, trust me, you gotta look at the bigger picture, not just find one or two sellers with the same dream as you. Wholesale, that is what the car is worth. Don't know about the ebay listing, all I am saying is with the number of V8 VEs around a 3 year old one is worth early 20's not in the 30's |

that the vehicle hasn't been written off and repaired, not stolen, not subjected to a de-register notice. If all of that checks out and the car mechanically appears fine, then I'd say go for it. I don't think anyone is suggesting buying the car sight unseen without checks, so it's right to be a little suspicious/cautious until it checks out... |

Yeah, agreed. I'm just saying I think it is worth early 20's, not mid 30's like some seem to believe

This.. Can't go off what a wholesale price may or may not be, because most of us don't have the ability to get goods at that price. |

first thing to look at is "reserve not met", bidding might start at 15 but you might not get it for less than 35

I guess what you have highlighted (in addition to me belonging in remedial mathematics) is that the twice as much (as the $19k reserve) statement is well off mark, given that for $38k with a bit of research and skill you could get a brand new SS instead of a 3 year old SSV (they are routinely advertised at 39.9k driveaway) I'm seriously just trying to educate you guys on how to get more car for your buck. Treat carsales list prices as a suggested starting price, not what you should pay (especially for something as homogenous as a V8 Commodore, with literally 1000's of them for sale) I don't have access to wholesale sources either, but I know I get wholesale prices, something anyone can do if they understand the game they are playing. I am not trying to sell anyone a car. Have nothing to gain |

The examples you keep putting up are NOT comparable to the car in question. You ridicule me for putting up Redbook data etc, but what evidence have you got to support your flawed argument? NONE. A VE SS is NOT comparable to an SSV. Compare apples to apples. That would be like saying a G6ET is worth the same as an XR6T etc Or a GTE is worth no more than a GS... And you keep dodging the fact that this car has only 14,500km. Can you honestly sit there and say that a car with 14,500km is worth no more than one with 50,000/100,000? |

You don't seem too mild manered on here, so unless you are just a keyboard warrior I would suggest in the real world you push a bit harder when it comes to negotiation. Always question, always find a different angle, but always be polite and you would be amazed at the prices you can get in saturated markets |

I was looking at getting a VE, but opted for a VZ instead. I was going to get a 06 Calais, but I've heard the series 1 VEs have a lot of teething problems.
Series IIs seem to be the go. I personally wouldn't buy a 3 year old car with so few Ks. |

I recall reading somewhere that scammers are now hacking into legitimate people's ebay accounts, then using them to list fraudulent auctions. This would probably explain why the sellers have positive feedback and appear to be legitimate. If you see anything like this again in future steer clear and immediately report it to ebay. |

The SS has the worlds best mass produced V8, and very easy to get bits and pieces for it.....if thats the way u want to go.
Holdens are the KING of bogans though Rather a stealth V8 Calais than a SS |

Ok guys so I sent an email and got this reply.
Send email Find email Add to contacts To andrew ******** From: Erica Stroup (ericastroup@hotmail.com) Sent: Monday, 9 July 2012 10:55:25 AM To: andrew ******* (******@hotmail.com) Hello there and thanks for your interest, The car is in perfect working condition. It has no scratches on and hasn't been involved in an accident, no rust. The motor runs very well. The car was always garaged and never been smoked in. The interior is very clean. Also I want you to know that the car is fully paid off, it's not under leasing or bank liabilities. I decided to sell the car at this price AU $19,000 because I just finished the divorce with my husband and I need the money urgently. I hope to find a buyer as soon as possible. I attached some pics for you. Where are you located? because I have listed the car on many web sites so I can sell it asap. If you have any further question please do not hesitate to ask in order to make this a successful deal. Best Regards ----- Original Message ----- From: andrew ******** To: ericastroup@hotmail.com Sent: Sunday, July 08, 2012 12:21 PM Hi I am just wondering about the car on ebay. Can I get more info please. Now in my original email I said that I seen the car on ebay. The person asks where I seen the add. They also say will sell the car for AU $19000. Why would someone put that in a reply. They also call it bank liabilities we do not use this wording in Australia. I think SCAMMMMMMMMM!!!! Will reply and see what I get. |

1. Sorry, no, I did not read the body of the ad, just seen "reserve not met". If you put a "buy it now" option on your ebay ad but someone bids on it (NOT "buy it now") then it removes that option. As far as I recall but I'm sure you will prove me wrong. 2. Yes I read the thread, people having differences of opinions on what a secondhand SS or SSV is actually worth and the true meaning of "half".

OK got a second email and I can confirm it is a scam.
Send email Find email Add to contactsTo andrew **** From: Erica Stroup (ericastroup@hotmail.com) Sent: Tuesday, 10 July 2012 7:23:58 AM To: andrew ****** (********@hotmail.com) Hello again. I would like to thank you for your interest in buying my car and also to clearly some things first of all. I would be glad to meet with you but my job is not offering me this chance..Because of my job I am traveling a lot and I can not return home and expect to meet potential client. That is why I've choose the Internet way to sell it. Right now I am located in Darwin NT. I would like to know from the beginning if you are really interested in purchase, so i can stop negotiating with potential buyers. My final price is AU $19,000 with shipping/handling included to your address (only in Australia) and it is not negotiable because the car is perfect condition. The transaction will be processed through eBay as I had the car listed on their site for a while and they provide the most reliable and secure services in which concerns the on line sales. You will pay eBay the required amount, and they will secure it until you get the car. You will be given a 5 days inspection period during so you can make sure that it is the car that you saw in the pictures. The final decision to buy or not the car will be after the 5 days with the car at your home. If you find the car unsatisfactory at the end of the 5 days inspection period, you have the option to return it to me at my expense and get a refund from eBay in 24 hours after they are notified about your decision. If you are satisfied with it, you will confirm that to eBay so that they can unblock the funds and send it to me and the transaction will be completed. So if you agree with what i stated above and you have the funds, i am ready to explain to you all the details regarding the payment method, the shipping process and the paperwork. Looking forward to hearing from you! |
