Ahh okay fair enough mate, I don't think its an intimidation factor just the size of the car people seem less likely to be a dick to me on the roads and speed up when I overtake, that could be just a power figure of the falcon compared to the rolla though.

A good barometer is how often do you beep your horn at others or how often do people beep their horn at you.
If you often beep at others you need to take a chill pill. Yes people are idiots and do stupid and intentionally stupid things. If someone has to be beeped then a short half second beep is sufficient to wake someone up and let them know they are doing something stupid. Long repeated beeps will incite anger and increase the chances of a road rage incident.
On the other hand, if you are the one that gets beeped a lot, you may need to review your driving style as you are the one that is being the idiot in the eyes of the other drivers. Once again increased chances of road rage.
I would suggest that a person that never beeps or is not beeped by others in a 12 month span, is probably the least likely person to be involved in a road rage incident.

My 2c.

Right or wrong you're better off leaving road ragers be, give them their space and let them go.
The apologetic wave can work wonders.
Remember the vehicle and rego and note it down later with date, time, place etc.

Do nothing to escalate the situation further. (Horn, Finger, Gestures etc).

There could be any number of factors (alcohol, drugs, mental illness, shock, tradgedy, mistaken identity) that can contribute to a person raging in addition to whoever they are to start with (violent, carries knifes, short tempered, etc).

Pulling a weapon on someone ...
Could end up having it taken from you and used against you, causing serious injury or death.
Could end up in an altercation and cause serious injury or kill the rager causing you to be charged.
Could end up them backing off only to take down your rego, call some buddies then follow you home.

If a rager chooses to follow you then call the cops and listen to the opperator, as a suggestion... start driving towards the closest police station and when you get there nail the horn to draw assistance.

You're no good to your family injured, dead or facing charges...

Have the testicular fortitude to be the bigger man and let them go.

Maybe the traffic need to get worse before drivers attitudes change for the better. I recently spent a few weeks in the Philippines and the traffic is so suggested in Manila they have an odd even number plate roster (the rich of course have several cars so the can drive every day not just alternate days). In any event, they stay calm and just use their horn to let others know where they are (and nobody takes offence) . Everyone is calm and I saw no road rage, accidents , swearing or rude 2 finger salutes. They all know they can't do anything about how bad the traffic so they just relax.

In the last few weeks:
Told a guy that I am annoyed he stole my carpark and lost it at me. When I questioned his parenting considering he was holding his 5yo daughter and talking the way he was, he went even more mental.
Had a lady in her 4wd cut me off rather than slot in behind me when there were more than 10 car lengths between myself and the last car. She gave me the finger, so i stopped next to the cop 5 cars up, explained the situation and how she was driving with L-plates and no passenger. She was then pulled over.
Down the eastern freeway, there was a car accident so everyone was passing slowly while the mess was cleaned up(how do people manage to hit on roads with no lights and the lanes go straight???). The person behind me ran up the back of me as they spent more time looking at the incident than traffic conditions.
The other moron that entered the freeway and straight away slotted himself in the right lane doing 80kmp/h even though I was barreling down it overtaking everyone. :(

I am not a perfect driver. But I try my best. I let courteous drivers through and wave to others who let me in. But the majority are arrogant and put myself and others in to situations which can end in a fatality. The training to get a license is way to easy. It needs to become a lot harder and the teaching to be done by professionals who know the rules. Not mummy and daddy!

^This guy knows where its it!! Finally someone said it, yes we need to review our learner and p plate tests all the while maybe make it a universal system? I was nervous as hell getting my p's when I was younger but it wasn't hard and didn't teach me anything about defensive driving in case of an incident!

Oh by the way, to the morons who enter a freeway under the speed limit get off the road! Most on ramps are down hill to one cross over the freeway but 2 give you a chance to get to the required speed without slowing traffic down!!

The problems these days is the lack of patience & being considerate to others, to me these people are selfish individuals who have a miserable life.

Just smile! it drives them nuts.

In all seriousness your much better off sitting in your car and just move on and ignore the situation.. Sometimes you have to sort of swallow your pride and walk away but your being the bigger man.

I've seen too many situations escalate way out of control and way above the intentions of both road rager and respondant.. I saw the road rager (who was in the right) lose a leg after he was run over by the guy who initially cut him off. If he would have just let it pass he would still have his leg.

People just can't swallow their pride, I saw a fight one because someone said "f@&k you" to the other guy from his car, then both guys got out and traded blows, one who kept saying "why f&@k me".. The other guy kept saying "f$&k you" as they both traded blows . It was hilarious

Perhaps a retesting of EVERY driver every 3 or 4 years to reinforce the road rules might be an idea.

Just last week, some rabid lady pulled up alongside me and screamed out "wan$Er!!!!", she was frothing and foaming from the mouth how angry she was.

I started chuckling at how intense and rabid she was , smiled at her and just flipped her the bird. . Her blood was boiling.

I don't even know why she was so angry? I was doing 40 in a school zone at around 9am.

I think you hit the nail on the head, everyone leaves everything to the last minute then rushes around like headless chooks.

School hours I give a miss being on the roads, those women can be a dreadful lot.

Even if there is further to the story, what gives the other driver the right to get out of their car and abuse the lady, even worse with kids in the car.

I don't care if she ratted up the outside and tried to push in at the lights (that's how I read it filling in a few blanks) the other drivers actions are unwarranted and disgusting

The same thing happens to my wife when she is going to work. When she slows down past a school bus she gets the forks, tailgating and all sorts from drivers behind male or female.

My worst experience has happened twice - enough for me to adjust my driving style.

Driving in Traffic, in the right lane is a Tipper with a digger loaded in it.
It pulls away slower than the GreenFutura, I slot in front at the next lights - plenty of space - I drive HR and understand the space issue.
But he was hoping not to come to a complete stop at the lights, and did not like the fact that I was there.

He "intentionally" braked lake and clipped my right rear whilst "feigning" evasive action.

A Few years pass, and at the same place, the same thing happens.
This time, as I do learn stuff from experience, I notice the truck has not slowed down - because I am watching in the rear view mirror ... this is the lesson I have learned !
I wait at the lights when he is committed to my right bumper, I accelerate fwd 3 metres and he misses, and blasts his horn and gives me the finger.

I will of course understand if anyone here tables the possibility that I "Cut him off", but I certainly did not, and in both instances the action was deliberate on the part of the (possibly different) drivers.

Hmmm ... the lesson ....
Understand that there are Idiots on the road, and be prepared.

I might get a crashcam.

When I was a youngster, I would get super agro over not much behind the wheel. I decided one day that I would "train myself" to stay calm because getting angry is pointless and very unhealthy. Every time I felt the agro come on, I took a deep breath and said to my self..."patience grasshopper, patience" over and over untill an improved state of mind was achieved. It took a few months but it solved my problem. 20 years on and driving is a much happier place for me.

The other half is on the road all day for work. Says sees road rage nearly every day, time to invest in a dash cam! Up here in Darwin it's half interstate people here for work half local people and everyone thinks the other lot sucks at driving.

the funniest i had lately was on the F3 coming into hornsby. these 2 monkeys in 70 series landcruisers (with orange light on the top, big mudflaps, etc) were driving side by side at 100 (110 zone) for ages. when the over took a car i quickly zipped down the left so i wasnt stuck behind them again and gave them a quick toot. nothing more, nothing less (definitely no tailgating)

Well, then i could hear them on my CB talking ******. Unfortunately they started catching me once we were on pennant hills rd and eventually got within 3 cars of me. I could hear one of them egging the other to "go give it to me". I saw him get out of the cruiser and thought - OK here we go. just as he got up to my car he started yelling which i guess startled my dog in the back of my ute. lets just say the guy kraped his pants and made a quick retreat back to his car.

I then listened to his friend on the CB give him heaps for the next 5 minutes (dog was a ridge back x rottweiler and doesn't respond well to aggressive types)

So i guess my answer is either a dash cam or a a big dog.
