That looks like a really good hose, I would love to hear how you find it. Having a longer hose will be a game changer. I went from a Karcher K2 with the 4.5m hose to the Kranzle with 15m, the extra 10m just makes the process much smoother and less cumbersome.

Ok, another few quick questions. Is there anything decent for applying to Mustang black wheels? Something that'll gloss and protect.

Cleaning them is a bit of a pain, I just use a microfibre towel which works ok, as the gaps between spokes are small. Anything better?

And what's a good tyre shine product? I'm currently trying Chemical Guys tyre shine, and it's decent, but doesn't last long at all. I used Meguiars tyre gel on the Falcon, but it tends to fling off unless totally buffed off.

Is there anything that lasts a fair amount of time, and looks good, not too glossy?

P.S. bought some Meguiars HCD today and applied it after a wash. Gives a goergeous gloss, and is easy to apply and remove. One of my new favourite products! Perfect for removing the water marks after blow drying!

Going to echo prydey here (my protégé ), Perl really suits those Michelin's.

Dressing tyres is my favorite detailing task, maybe because it generally signals the end of the detail and is essentially the final touch. I have more tyre dressings than I should publicly admit too, I'm the town bike of tyre dressing users. Lets just say I have been having a lot of fun............

I mention CarPro Perl being very good on those PS4S Michelin's as I have decided to return to it on my Mustang after using OG Tire Dressing on them since they were installed. While Perl can be diluted, I don't bother with that, I use it full strength straight from the bottle. As such, you will want to try and find a pump action dispenser or a pop-top lid to make things easier. (Think re-purposed hand soap dispenser or juice top).



For the first application, slather it on thick! Allow it to dry for 15-30min then knock it back with a B-grade towel.



Perl can initially look very glossy but generally levels down once it cures on the tyre. It won't last as long as a solvent based dressing but does seem to endure quite well. The next pic better represents Perl once it has dried -



I will say, I actually really like Chemical Guys VRP (assuming that's the one you have been using), but you are correct in that it doesn't last beyond the next wash.



I'm also going to recommend a couple of others for you to check out.

If you want more gloss, try Gyeon Q2 Tire. This is a solvent based dressing/coating with excellent longevity. But, it WILL sling if not applied correctly. The tyre must also be very well cleaned prior to application of a very thin coating before being knocked back after 30min with a towel. As applied, you should have great longevity and minimal sling. I stopped using this as my favorite after ruining a pair of VERY EXPENSIVE jeans by brushing past a tyre one morning, as such it does have some greasiness to it. (Gyeon also make a water based tyre dressing, but I don't rate it.)

Next, one of my absolute favorite detailing products, NV Onyx. This is a water based so wont sling and also seems to last quite. It's a very premium feeling and smelling product that gives a satin finish and dries to the touch. I actually want to try this on my Mustang next to see if it suits those PS4S's better than Perl.

One more I will throw at you is DuraGloss 253. Where the others I have mentioned are gels/creams, 253 is a runnier liquid, much like Perl would be when diluted. This applies very easily, dries to touch and is one of the better lasting water-based dressings.

In terms of application, do not spray a product directly onto the tyre, it just creates a mess. Apply the chosen product into a brush or applicator sponge. I really like using a large detailing brush to apply dressings, finding a good sized brush locally is hard though and you really need one with stiffer bristles. I use the RaceGlaze XL, but these are ultra pricy to get shipped to Australia.

I would recommend getting some P&S Brake Buster as this doubles as a wheel cleaner and a tyre cleaner too. A tyre brush is also good to have.

I also like NV Purge, this a pH neutral wheel cleaner that changes colour as it reacts to contamination. It generally wont deep clean your tyres but is much more touchless in it's action than Brake Buster. If you can't decide which to get, just buy both!

Have a read of that link above, I can lead you in the right direction for appropriate wheel cleaning brushes if you wish. Using a towel is a very good technique for those wheels.

For protection, the easiest would be a product like Gyeon Wet Coat. Wash and rinse the wheel as normal and while still wet, mist a couple of sprays of Wet Coat before rinsing with water. This process coats the wheel face and barrels instantly. Do this every two - three washes.

The biggest problem with those PP1 wheels is a lack of clearance around the front calipers. As such, you will need a couple of brushes to clean the barrels, a bristled one and a softer microfiber one.

I have always said that the person who designed those wheels had a sick sense of humor, I wonder if cleaning ever crossed their mind.

I'm not a big Pan fan but this video caught my eye.



I would be confident in saying that CarPro is my favorite brand as a whole. With some brands, there might be a couple of high achievers in the lineup with the rest being pretty average. With CarPro, I can say that the vast majority of the products can be relied upon to give exceptional results.

And just as important to me is how the brand is presented. The bottles are simple, the labels are clean and clear and the use of colour allows for easier identification.



Compare that to the messy, overcomplicated label designs from P&S and Chemical Guys. Far too many names, words and logos.

After spending the weekend detailing BMW paint I now know why the professionals charge so much for correction to Euros.

I was using Scholl S3 on a wool pad with the rotary and it wouldnt even remove all the scratches, crazy. Knowing this car was a flipper i settled for Scholl S20+ on a Shine Mate green pad with the RO and it was finishing down nicely for shine and getting rid of minor swirls. For the big scrathes i wanted to chase I used my rotary mini on full speed with a wool pad.

I figured going for perfection was pointless when the new owner will wash it with a sponge the first week and stuff any good work i did. It now shines really nice, will post some photos when i get a chance.

Even though Ford paint is horriby thin and soft, it's made me realise how much easier it is to work with haha.

I'm still waiting for my Mustang so I cant speak of first hand experience, but I thought Ford's generally had medium paint hardness and the Japanese cars had the softer paint.

This is the impression I got from watching many of Sandro's (Car Craft Auto Detailing) videos anyway. But yeah I might be wrong, and I'm sure it could even differ between cars coming from different factories and/or model years.

Honda paint is crazy soft. You can scratch it just running your hand over it.
Isuzu paint is also very soft and very thin. I’ve seen a professional detailer burn through it in just seconds using a rotary. That required repainting to repair that.
I found the Mustang and the Territory both pretty good to work with. The Mustang was brand new and the Territory is 7 years old and still looks pretty good for a daily driven family car.

Most European cars look like they’ve been washed with a scotch brite pad. It hurts my soul.

Yeh, soft paint wasn't the right words i guess, generally medium but I found my red AU XR8 to have very soft paint and my AU sportman in white to have very hard. I'm generally only detailing falcons from AU to FGX and the paint is very easy to work on.

So here is a few photos, I didn't get real close up ones but on the medium sized scratches I just softened the edges to make them almost invisible. I was going to get some photos tonight to show the finer details but I put it for sale at 10 last night and ir sold at 8 this morning couldn't believe the interest I had in it.

Still had plenty of bumps and bruises, but for a 17 year old car it came up well. For the interior I used carpro inside diluted at 1:8 and then dressed with aerospace 303 protectant, For the leather i used Colourlock Leather Milk Protector/Conditioner

Next on the agenda is the 2009 335i in the last photos, that will take a lot more effort. It has 240km and also the cream interior that is very dirty and has wear. I'll spend time getting photos and showing the process for this one.

Playing around trying to get the combo and speed right for the finish i wanted.

Not that much is new here for me but Clarity/Fabric < for the suede in the Sprint and Purify wanted to test it for the son is getting a new used Serato shortly and having seen it needs a full correction etc hence the clay bars as well having not tried these also.
Have my current shine mate to use but next coming is the Mini I ordered from detailing shed.
I’m ordering g some new small size pallet racking for the garage that is overdue for a clean out make more room and get in order for I have too much product but nothing like our DFB guru

Do you flip cars for a hobby? If you don't mind me asking what sort of profit do you make, just ballpark. Not that I'm looking at doing it as I don't have the time or patience but just curious. It's good to see neglected cars get a new lease on life for a bit longer.

Looks like Nu-Finish have joined the Graphene party, which is in addition to their spray ceramic sealant.







Both of those products have not reached Australia yet. In the USA the Graphene version sells at $18 USD for 709ml. The ceramic one is priced from $16 USD for 709ml.

In regards to flipping cars for a hobby. I have bought and sold a few. I actually really enjoy making a 4 out of 10 car a 7 out of 10. Something like this BMW has a massive gain because car yards offer peanuts on trade in. Some other cars i've barely broken even, thats not including the time i put in as well. But I enjoy the process of bringing them back. I don't go actively looking for them though, it's weird, they just fall into my lap and I do it.

I do wish I had more time to be honest. I spend a lot of time in my garage after 9pm until early hours of the morning tinkering, then i don't have to feel guilty about not spending time with the family. I work 12-16 hour days during the week, and 1 in 3 weekends, so it's a balance.

Me too, i'm not going to go crazy on it as the effort of making them perfect (dye) won't necessarily net anymore $ in the long run. The car needs to be clean but still represent the kms etc, I don't want to make it look perfect or people will think something is wrong

I'm about to use Nova Evo ceramic on 3 cars and am on the hunt for some good one use microfibre for leveling the coating. Costco yellow ones used to be good value, but they changed and now they scratch the paint.

Yer I was going to buy some more general microfibres but at the same time I still have a bundle next one.
I think DFB has posted up heaps of other good choices.

Re "time" - yer back a number of years ago I did just what you do, after dinner evening till early hours, way to do it keep the peace with the Boss plus she's snoring away on the couch lol just perfect !
I've been alot busier since and looking forward getting back into that routine, why I'm re arranging the man cave as well shortly, condense clean up throw out alot of unused old products, other garb and re set new shelving, more lighting happy days I'll be into more regular again.

These are my favorite GP towels, they are a touch bigger than a lot of towels making them great for interior cleaning, dirty jobs, engine bays ect. They are cheap enough to beat them up at the same time as being decently durable.

The green ones I have been using for interior cleaning for a long time now, they have done very well with the use they have had.

The grey ones I use for dirty jobs, wheel arch dressing, cleaning excessively dirty areas, dirty engine bays, counter top cleaning ect. These towels are given a beating and are holding up to it.

The blue ones are what I grab when I just need a towel but don't see the sort of dirt the grey ones. The red ones are for "my" engine bays (as in already clean, I know I know).

The purple and orange ones cop the most though, these are for the kitchen.

I quite like the 4-Season towels, at $7.25 each they are a touch expensive to be single-use towels.

It's strange that Waxit don't focus more attention on towels. While they have a small range of good towels, they just don't have the range that other outlets have. I also don't quite know why Waxit bother selling Kranzle pressure washers without also offering the corresponding upgrades to nozzles, wands, hoses and guns.

My use of ceramics is limited to DLUX on trim and NV Wheel on the Mustang's matte black wheels, so I can't really comment with regards to paint.





However, those Green Edgeless 245 were OG's coating towel for a number of years, if they met his criteria, then I see no reason why they wouldn't be up to the task.

He now uses Edgeless Pearl's which are 320gsm, however they are more expensive at $4.95 / $4.70.

i30 went in for a service today. Partner specifically asks them not to wash it (even though it was filthy). They washed it.

Urgh, that's a nightmare. I cringe when I see them washing cars.
