Yes. There is no new GT due in 12 months. 18-20 months, perhaps, but not 12. Also consider that HSV is launching its F series range which is going to hurt FPV considerably, even moreso because their product hasn't changed in looks since 2008- with VF's debut this was the perfect time to refresh the face of the GT and it doesn't cost much to tweak a front bar - it's going to cost them much more in lost sales.

Hey folks, I'm not sure where the confusion has come from around what we promised to showcase today as here's exactly what we said on the Ford Performance Vehicles Facebook page: Something special has just come out of the paint shop and is coming together at Broadmeadows in our new performance vehicle assembly area. It’s not a new model but still a very special car. Do you know what it might be?
We pretty clearly said it's not a new model - but it IS still a very special car. Today was about showcasing the new facilities we've invested in at Broadmeadows (and Geelong but more on that to come later this year) in order to bring FPV production in-house. We had two choices last year when Prodrive indicated they didn't want to proceed with the joint venture anymore - we could let FPV go away entirely or we could take it all on ourselves. We chose to take it on ourselves because we think the vehicles and the brand deserve it. Since that time, quite a number of people have worked very hard to install the new dedicated FPV facilities within our plants. Some of our most dedicated technicians have been chosen to work on the cars. Similar to last year, we could have chosen to approach today in one of two ways: 1) do an internal event only - and deal with the resulting furore for not marking the occasion appropriately; or 2) get people together to celebrate We chose option 2 and have seen some very positive media coverage as a result. We're very pleased by the results of today, both as a thank you for our team members who've worked so hard to make it a reality, and also that we were able to share the occasion with some of our most dedicated Forums and Facebook fans. We've produced a video to mark the occasion as well, which you can find here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUFqRq9v72E&feature=youtu.be Hope this explains what our thinking was (whether or not you still agree or disagree) and you all enjoy the video. |

yes fair enough thanks for the post
it was unclear whether 'it's not a new model' was being said in a sly way to insinuate that the coupe/HO/whatever else people were hoping for had existed before so technically it wasn't new. But taking it the way you meant it, people may have been hoping for a GT with a bit more kit. thanks for posting anyway

There is something new, I think the side stripes are different, I like the new one more than the old, (that's if they are actually different and ford Photoshop hasn't morphed it somehow), i think the front section of stripe is thicker and the top of stripe is level instead of kicking up towards the back, subtle change but it really works in my opinion......new stripe left pic off fpv site, old stripe right pic, (some might say new sticker pack) all in all good publicity, we always whinge about no publicity so we should celebrate......................

Also good to note that Ford PR are monitoring ford forums, we should be on our best behavior, at least respectful with constructive criticism or positive with generous praise, just a thought..........

Ford spokesperson speaks and the world stops spinning. Point still stands, the range is begging for a refresh, it's the sixth year they've looked this way- they really could have used this opportunity for more than a PR stunt because that's exactly what it is- FPV folded up and lots of jobs were lost, people have forgotten about that- well played.

Whether Ford could have taken this opportunity to change something on the FPV, especially when they have reeled the clock back to Number 1 or not is totally worthy of conversation but the way some just keep punching FPV in the face with every move they make is astonishing. Since I have had my GT335 (2011) it already has had 1 update (FG11) & RSpec has been released. Really ..... true story!

Well I was there today and thought the whole launch was fantastic . We still have FPV and yes you may say the cars are still the same and they are . But the whole point is we still have FPV . Thank you ford for saving the brand . There is a new excitement at ford that I have not felt for a long time . I think bringing the FPV brand back to the main factory can only be a god thing . I have also been invited to see the new engine plant in Geelong and I have had a good talk to a few of the guys who are building the engines and again I can see the passion and excitement from ford employees that I believe is needed
Well done ford

And thats all it was ment to be, PR stunt or exposure... Ford have done what many hear have complained about...market the product. Let the updates/power increase happen after HSV releases there VF products.

But on the topic of true stories, all of those 'updates' have exactly the same body, some with more stickers than others. FGII was a donor car update and the R Spec was a special edition rather than an update. The car on sale in 2008 (revealed in leaked images in early 2007) looks exactly the same as the car they are trying to sell in 2013, not taking this excellent opportunity to at least tweak the front bar is what astonishes me. |

As a positive at least the FG isn't as old as VE (2006). Holden are in series 2 and HSV in series 3 guise but they are still based on the same 2006 car that rolled off the assembly line 7 years ago this year. It's a wonder they still sell any at all. |

They should have deleted the raccoon eyes. That would be enough of a change to bring a little freshness until the "fu" arrives

Good to see a few of the guys I know from the plant in the video. Ryan was a good choice to head up the V8 assembly line, he's a good bloke and will do a great job. There are a few other blokes who will work on the V8 line who are passionate Ford people who take real pride in their work.

Precisely, because they don't look identical to the one that debuted in 2006, even if they did get 13 year olds to design the updates. |

My point about HSV E series being 7 years old regardless of series upgrades was to outline FPV are young in comparison, so in my eyes FPV are relatively fresh when compared to the local alternative.

Personally I think it's great Ford has done this even if the cars are the same. Pity it didn't get on the prime time news like VF did; it is significant that the "GT" has rolled out of Broadmeadows.
Any publicity is good publicity!

Mate you got me all wrong, I didn't say I didn't rate it!!!!! last thing you want to do is put words in my mouth about Ford or the latest FPV 335's, I would say that the last Rspec decal combos (u.s inspired) aren't my cup of tea and I just want more to put euro/hsv trash to the corner weeping

Thanks Joe,
That's great to hear. I watched Channels 7 (6pm) and 2 (7pm) news and didn't hear anything on them. Ford did make an event out of it which was good to see.

Great work with the video and the publicity generated Sinead. You have done very well in the circumstances. Imagine what you would have been able to do with a VF style model update!

I know there was a reason for them doing it but I didn't see much of the C'dore on the news as it was released on a weekend .... and on a Sunday which I think would be the worst time to do it? Plus the amount of leaks from the US sites. I did really notice the canned applause with the unveiling. That was quite funny to watch with everyone watching with their arms folded.

Did anyone else get the hair standing on the back of your neck watching the video.
That was awsome! I wonder if there is any sort of marking on the gt's built out of the plant to differentiate? |

Well, what I saw was a bunch of passionate Ford employees delighted to get there hands back on fords premium products.
Yes, despite the folks here wanting the v10 twin turbo versions with the super heated cup holders, but what we got was a continuation of what is a car that can kick HSV but for years to come. Yes it was a same as strategy, in part limited by time. But that is good because it promotes continuity and it beats the hell out of the no FPV strategy, that like it or not must have been on the table before FOA spent tens of millions to buy out Prodrive and move its production to Broadmeadows. Upgrades to the range will happen in time maybe withe the model upgrade next year, I hope they have change of heart and bring forward the inter cooled versions if the need arises to counter the aledged LSA powered HSV. The only issue there is many of GMs grand announcements of late have been reversed ( australian VF SS's will not get the 6.2 motors was corrected today.) So who knows. From my perspective, great work Ford. Keep building and developing these fine and underrated automobiles.
