I'd love a blown Coyote but with the GS it really seems like you're just buying the engine. SSV is just a nicer car overall and has more appeal to anyone looking for a circa 50k family car. I still stand by my comment that a dark headlining and a sportier stance would do wonders for FG.

I think Rodge that Ford need to take more ownership of the product. By that I mean they could be offering option packs for cars like the XR6T and an XR8 much like Holden do with the "V" option packs and "Holden by Design". Create some excitement in the brand. They are being hurt by not having a V8 available throughout the range; I live out Penrith way and there are heaps of SS Commodores here, SV6 and Calais V8s.

This way there could be series of stepping stones between the bread and butter performance models and the FPVs.

There are also a few GT's here too, the 335kW (I've seen Vixen, White and Black), which is good to see. Can't say I've seen a GS yet.

The bad news always seems to surround Ford and Holden/HSV just sail (sale!) on.

My opinion seems to reflect that of many others going by the number of SSV's I see on the road (lost count 300 units ago) compared to the GS (none yet?)

I want FPV/FoA to succeed but, like many others I feel there are some issues that need to be addressed. Most crucial would probably be marketing. It really corns my silverside when you tell people you drive an FPV and they don't know what it is. And yes I'm sure alot more people WOULD choose a GS over an SSV if they knew they existed. When have you been able to buy a car off a showroom floor with a blown 5l V8 for <60k?

The same place as in the SSV ute.

Of course of you compare the SSV Redline sedan to the GS sedan the price is also about the same.

This entire thread got old fast. I was just saying that to prospective buyers who care little about mod potential an SSV looks like a more convincing proposition. The GS looks and feels like an XR6 yet with a few minor changes could be so much more appealing. That's what I would like to see happen.

Difference is, Frankie doesn't bark when he shouldn't...perhaps a few members on here should copy his lead.

i thought that was the whole point - it ISNT a better car, yet still comfortably outsells it. what it lacks in power it makes up for in equipment.

i get why FPV needed to make a statement WRT a new motor. but consequently, there's a big hole in the lineup and Holden are picking most of these customers up.

its great that FPV have sewn up the traffic light hero market, but what seems to be forgotten is that the wife often has a significant input into what is purchased, and as someone mentioned, a car that is basically a $50k engine and not much else is going to be a tough ask in most families. hence, the SSV outsells it, even though in a alot of areas, its a bit half-arsed.

i dont think it matters what ford/fpv do to the gs or gt, holden and hsv just seem to have a more loyal following. look at the cruze, as a daewoo it wouldnt sell bugger all, slap some holden badges on it and its outselling the commodore.

my boss is a loyal holden/hsv buyer, he knows his r8 gets hammered by his mates warm xr6t, hes been beaten a couple of times by 335gt's, so i asked him why he wouldnt think of getting one when the lease is up on the r8.

his answer? its a ford, simply not interested. thats the sort of (blind) loyalty the red team has on its side.
but lets not forget, the red team has lost just as many sales as ford, theyre hurting just as much, if not more.

oops, just saw flappists post...

All I would say at this point in the thread ....... PLEASE stop generalizing.

It goes along these lines if you must come close when putting everyone in the same basket:

If power is not your prerequisite, get a HSV

If power is a prerequisite, get an FPV!

If you prefer a HSV, get a HSV

If you prefer an FPV, get an FPV

How simple is that?

No one is really knocking anyone for liking some other model over something else ...... and a few posts above have shown you can discuss things with opposing views rationally ..... but then the "SSV is just a nicer car overall and has more appeal to anyone looking for a circa 50k family car". starts again. ................ in your mind yes and no problem with you saying so but pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease, it goes like this ..... "For me, the SSV is just a nicer car overall and has more appeal to me if I was looking for a circe 50k family car ..... "

See what I did there??????????? I turned it into your opinion and yours only .... not everyones!

PS: That actually was hard writing I prefer an SSV ......... which I do not .......

Holden will always sell more cars then ford, no matter how much better the fords clearly are, they have got alot more loyal supporters, just like the 1960s 1970s the holden monaro and torana sold a hell of alot more cars then ford did with the gt, even though the ford gt was in a different league.

I should have qualified that list of what I'm looking for is in regard to the 2014 Update. I'm not expecting any of that gear in the near term.

I'm not so sure. Perhaps Ford could have some sort of redline pack with decent brakes. I drove a standard XR6 a few months back and was quite surprised with the brakes "performance". To me the I6T has the Commodores measure and the GS is the XR8 in all but name. FPV pumped too much money into the SC development to have it undermined by a NA Maimi powered XR8 which would definitly be slower than an XR6T / G6ET, Groundhog day all over again regarding the NA 5.4 XR8.
GS was always designed as "the" entry level FPV and is thus already a natural stepping stone between high performance Ford's and the other FPV's.
Of course some people cheat and re-tune them and fit better brakes and who can blame them. ~400 rwkw's potentially do-able for ~ $50K

On another tangent and not really aimed at anyone in particular but earlier on in this thread some people are on here calling FPV ownership up as Elitest, I've seen demo GS's in the low-mid $40K range...what's elite about that ?...just work a bit harder for goodness sake.

To those that own a FPV (count me there), or have the coin to purchase one, what do you think they could focus on, to push higher sales numbers?
Marketing? Features? New models? Or do you think it's a combination of the economic climate, fuel costs, etc?

What would you see as a way to boost (zing!) sales?

an example . ME . i walk into a holden dealership , excuse me sir , as i walk into the showroom after standing in the lot looking for an ss wangadoor , i heard ss dores are 42 , i want to drive one , may i have a look , i think they were 42k at the time , looks up from desk , theyre all sold out none here , they are now around 47k .
ME : fine may i see one ,
wanga: no , i can order one for you over phone if you have 500 bucks .
ME : Walks out and goes to 2 other wangadoor dealers . same deal . except one has a black manual clubbie , OOOOOHHHH ! thats nice , can i drive it .
WANGA : no . it isnt registered yet , 2 more weeks you can , 65K
ME: OK I HAVE MONEY NOW , AND i cant drive this or an SS , FORD IS ACROSS THE STREET , i'll see you later i might go and buy a GS .
AFTER 2 WEEKS GT IS IN GARAGE . still no calls about SS WANGADORES ,
i get a call about the black clubbie , hisir would you like to buy the clubbie come and have a drive .
ME : ERR my new GT IS ripper of the car , i bought it 2 weeks ago after the test drive .
WANGA : ERR OK .

COUPLA THOUGHTS . holden did not want my business or show the need to have it , i went to buy a gs and got a better deal on a GT , THEREFORE ford werent interested in discounting GS's at the time , i test drove the GS , and bought the GT , in the showroom for a great deal .

Well I actually came from the red side after a SS to a HSV Clubsport. I found the HSV very disappointing & sold it after only 13000 k's & bought a BA XR8. I found the build quality much better in the Ford & even though everyone was bagging the 5.4, I always reckoned it went much better then any Chev powered Holden I'd ever driven! Took the plunge & bought a FPV BF GT in 2006 & what great car it was & even today, they still stand out in a crowd more than most other cars. I'm now the very proud owner of a 335 GTP & what a car it is. Worth every penny in my book & I couldn't imagine what more you could want from a performance car. It has the looks to match the performance & that is something that is vital in any performance car!
Whenever I drive my GTP & see one of those terrible looking VE HSV's with those tackey bloody DRL's, I smile & recognise how lucky i am!
I love my FPV's!

The demographic that want to buy a performance Holden or falcon pretty much know about FPV and HSV. Advertising and marketing of these types of vehicles to Jo Public en masse won't help. They are priced and aimed squarely at a niche market. I doubt whether someone contemplating buying an M3 or C63 would be swayed by an FPV commercial. Not saying it hasn't happened , but I don't think it would pull the sales numbers to justify the campaign costs.

What we need is some good old fashioned tribal warfare again on the track and on TV . Whack these production cars on a track and start a production car racing series like the bad old days.....show these things screaming around a track with some head to head racing and team politics with some hyper commentary and let the cars do their own advertising. I'm sick of watching the V8 supercar circus.....too far removed and not doing any favors for HSV or FPV.

Win on Sunday ... Sell a few more on Monday....

Rodge your from NZ aswell, and I wonder if its the same in aussie.

But holden personally dont outsell because of gismo's or anything like that. . . sure it helps but when I ask a holden owner/supposed holden fan why they buy/would go the holden option over the ford, I get multiple answers like "Because they are better". When I ask why they can't explain to me. I also get a large number of "because they win more races". hmmm wonder if they no of FPR success lately.

All I mean to say is there seams to be some very ill informed decisions when people buy cars, especially ford and holden. And that some people get to the first dealer and go wow yes that one. I see this allot.

Probably the wrong sector to ask as they already have one and didn't need what FPV need to do to boost sales. More the point, what do FPV need to do to make non owners buy one?....Interest free finance maybe aka Harvey Norman?....There's lots of negatives in owning these cars, but to me the positives outweigh the negatives.

1. Fuel use
2. Cost of insurance
3. The attention they attract (some do and some don't like this)
4. Aren't the first Aussie car of choice (unlike Holden/HSV)
5. The initial cost - Many out there believe they are just a tarted up overpriced taxi.
6. You won't convert most Euro buyers (i.e the Mosman, Prahran hob nobs who don't rate Fords/FPV's - or Holdens for that matter)
7. You won't convert battling XT/XR6 buyers who are on struggle street
8. Cost of repairs if something goes wrong. Servicing cost for my GT is much higher than any other car I've owned . I don't care, but many would

Like this one that already exsist? Where the last aussie car to win was the a Xr6 turbo? Where they tend not to race more expensive HSV/FPV versions.

http://www.ptcc.net.au/old_index.php

Production car racing will not sell more FPV's then what the V8 supercars will do. The V8SC has a wide audience with both Ford and Holden having prime advertising space.

Holden didnt want your business because:
1/ They didnt have an SS wagon to show you because they had sold all the floor stock but still offer to get you one in anyway for a test drive ($500 shows your serious, not just some **** kicker).
2/ 2 other dealers have sold out and offer to get you one in for you to test drive.
3/ you expect them to let you test drive an unregistered Clubsport.

Seems you really cant please some people - they did what they could for you.
You wouldnt even put down $500 to show your serious, and not just one of the 50 dreamers that walk in everyday looking for a free ride in something they cant afford - and you wonder why they never rang you back.

The difference is Holden are selling the cars, thats why they had none for you to test drive, where as Ford arent, thats why they had them sitting around on the showroom floor.
