Default Ford 4 Life

hey guys , just wondering how long you plan on keeping your Falcons, me I plan on keeping it for life, its my 1st car (already done 50k within a year)...and when I get knowledge on working on cars, I plan to keep/restore/drive till the day it decides to not go on me. I love Ford. and sad to see an icon dissapear from our roads beyond 2016, so you in it for the Long haul?

I'm in no rush to get rid of mine. Didn't want to 'get rid' of the EL either, but had no choice in that one -.-
Hate 'new' cars.

I will get rid of my GS in 2-3 years. Ford as a global product will survive and something better will come along. Anyone would think that cars won't exist from 2016 the way some people talk on here. Ford will exist and it will be an improved product from model-to-model, so enough with the doomsday talk

As much as I would like to buy a new car later, in reality the BF will be a keeper. Most of the mods are completed. I am very happy with the package and power. Wife's Terri will be upgraded in 12 months time. She doesn't like the new Territory as it doesn't have enough overall changes and as such doesn't really view it as a new model. Would love it if the Explorer was here. That would definitely be an option.

Oh dear...if I could count the number of cars I've solemnly promised I would "keep for life"...well...I'd have about six cars sitting outside...

The glow of a brand new car is one I've only experienced for the first time with the G6E we bought last February...but already I'm starting to get "the itch", and have been looking at something else that may suit our needs better in maybe six months to a year. A Subaru XV is looking promising...but I digress.

Hey, some people do keep the brand new car they bought "for life", and good on them! Most people however start out with the blush of new love fresh in their cheeks, but after a few years start to have a wandering eye...

Not any time soon, it's worth three fifths of bugger all and starts every time I turn the ignition so I see no benefit to selling, besides, people always seem to regret selling cars. The EL will be retired sometime in the next 18 months when I eventually decide what to upgrade to, but I will either keep it on the road as a second car, or put it in the shed and let it collect dust for a while. Won't be sold - don't think I could get anyone to buy it anyway

Im keepin my AUII for life. There is no better full sized wagon in Aus.
Tough, reliable, cheaper parts, easy to work on, looks the goods, its comfy, parts are a plenty, has minimal electric BS, doesnt have acres of plastic and gimmicky rubbish inside or acres of plastic under the hood for that matter, its big, is a beaut to drive, it has the mighty i6 under the hood, has cable throttle, it can acheive 8L to the 100kms aswell...theres nothing being made that fits all this!

When I had my EA I promised myself I'd keep it until it dies or the FG came out, whichever came first. As it turned out, I couldn't keep that promise. My eyes started to wander ... first it was an EL Fairmont Ghia. Then it was a BA Falcon XT. Then it was the SX Territory. I finally decided to bite the bullet and buy the BF Fairmont because I had an offer too good to refuse.

I'd like to think that my BF will be with me until it dies, but I seriously doubt I'll be able to keep that promise. But it'll be with me for several more years yet.

Very well put - pretty much all the reasons why I'm not that keen on post-AU Falcons.

She might change her mind if she drove one, the new Terry is streets ahead of the old model, i think Ford spent most of the money under the skin and it is a beutifull drive.

I've been in love with the AU2 XR8 shape since they first came out. I retired mine from daily duties last year and I plan to keep it forever.

No Falcon V8 models post AU3 [and there have been some pearlers] do it for me (quite the way the AU does)

I think if you're truly passionate about a car (regardless of make or model) you should try to hang on to it. I've heard too many stories from people who regret selling beloved cars.

If the new Focus ST isnt to my liking my current focus will be my last Ford and ill be off to a different Euro. That said later on if i get the chance to get my hands on an RS Sierra or Escort Cossie. As much as i liked Aussie falcons (Moreso FTE). I doubt ill buy another.

As far as dailys are concerned, I tend to change them a fair bit. I also will not buy a post-AU Falcon. (Unless of course Ford offered me a new car that meets my criteria)

But Im feeling game enough to try a classic Ford as a daily, which will more than likely mean id never get rid of it. I "might" change back to a contemporary, but I have a very hard time selling classic Fords.

Really for me it depends on the market - I would like to imagine that I but the Wife a New Ford every 10 years, and one for me every ten years, with these two cycle 5 years apart.

However I regret selling the EFII - at ten years it was still a very good car.

all very good points, you have to wonder if there a point at which progress is no longer progress and a backward step, i have no doubt that in 30/40 years time there will still be some of the reliable simpler old cars getting around like the AU , these modern gadget ridden cars with masses of electronics and stepper motor operated gizmo`s will be long in the crusher..

It's hard to say, i love large sports sedans such as th fpv gt, and if ford no longer has a brand new market i may look at something like an M3 - yes i know hefty price change. Of course im ford through and through, and so id probably stick with old material and making it better,

I will keep my current BA GT, but for the falcon. Not worth keeping IMO. IMO there is no point in keeping anything from EA onwards.

maybe, maybe not, for me the Au even with it`s few minor flaws will go down in Australia`s motoring history as a model that was/is under appreciated, and one of really individual models that upped the ante with very good driving dynamics and rugged simpleness yet with some really cool technology, for example the over heat protection on the inline six that alternates cylander cut out save the engine that to my knowledge very few if any other cars have on the planet, a bullet proof driveline and suspension.
i reckon down the track the AU will be a classic and sought after for these properties.

Bought my Territory 8 year ago new ... and it still pretty much drives like it as well. Safe, comfortable, reliable, easy to drive. This one is a keeper .. will just keep the maintenance up to it so it lasts as long as possible, mileage on it doesn't bother me at all.

I just got rid of my work ute ... but bought something that will last us a long time as well ... and a 2yo FG XT on the 2nd hand market is cheap (and what I got was like new anyway) ... hoping to hold onto this for as long as possible.

My last 2 work utes were driven into the ground with high-ish kays on them ... they took the hard work well and were both comfy as well ... I would hve gone an FG ute ... but as circumstances change I have come back to a family vehicle.

The EL is quite a comfortable car, and has had a lot of work done to it, half of the car is probably new haha.

Its a nice car for long drives with the family, just need to finish it off to get it on the damn road, then I can enjoy driving it more than just quickly taking it for a spin around the neighborhood or sitting in it idling it in the driveway for a few hours.

Weather needs to improve though so I can work on it, not lying on the driveway in the rain and 5 degree temperatures.

After its finished its going to be a comfortable friday and weekend cruiser, the Focus is too low to take to two of my friends places as they're on dodgy dirt back roads, I literally couldn't take my Focus to one mates place because its potholes that badly and my Focus is 30mm lower than factory, I reckon it would smash off the sump.

I agree with this my AU XR8 is going nowhere, partly because it won't ever give me back the coin i spent on it but 90% because its not about the money it's the way it drives, i dont need a thosand airbags or a car that parks itself or electronic everything I just enjoy the drive for it being a joy to drive, BA and later just don't give that to me
