Old cars at a farm

Just got back from a country farm, saw these old wrecks and I thought id take some happy snaps for you guys. Enjoy....

The old bakery van would of been a weapon. It's amazing what some of the farms around australia have got.

hopefully im scooting out to one that has about 4 acres of cars on sat...if the old bugger lets me in for a look
he thinks everyones going to steal off him
his prices are stupid as well
havent been there for ten years so it'll be interesting to see the condition of them as most of them were rooted back then
xps just sitting in the middle of a paddock
few of the SA guys might know the the one im talking about, up in the barossa.

That FX (48-215) grille looks like it's sitting in the engine compartment of an FJ ute...weird...
Grille looks to be standing up pretty good. I remember an interview with the man who used to work at Holden back then and had the job of spot welding them up out of a pile of sections. It was in Restored Cars magazine quite some years back, and on a night shift he snuck in one of those little old pocket cameras, and got a friend to take pictures of them making up the grilles. It's apparently the only know photos of it happening, and Holden wouldn't have been pleased if they knew.

The magazine said he obviously did a great job as even when you see a rusted out pile of crap in the bush, usually the grille was all that was left in recognisable shape and still is usually in good condition.

As for the others, the little four cylinder Torana coupe looks in OK condition...certainly worth saving.

I've always thought one of those old bread vans would make a sweet street rod.

The torana coupe I believe is HB the forgotten tornana, I like the dodge van rare to find in australia.

Very nice collection all useful to someone.

Nah the torana is a 4 cylinder LJ, called a TA Torana.
1300cc or I think 1760cc were the two optional motors for these.
(I'm not saying anymore, I'll get shot for knowing so much about these torana's on a Ford Forum!!)

Rural areas are full of old cars being left to waste. I've even seen a Morris Minor in a paddock in Laidley. Surprised no collectors have picked it up.

sadly, with such high prices on scrap metal, the old car lots like this are disappearing fast.

isn't the torana an LC model (it's not LJ)?

Looks like he has an early model Holden ute from each era up till EJ-EH. Also it must by dry there because it looks like scavenging has been their worst enemy not rain!

Good luck, I popped in about 2 years ago and he did not seem to want to part with a single thing. He is elderly so I wonder what will become of all these cars in the future, must be hundreds of em!

Yep LC by the look. Chrome grille and non-segmented rear lights by the look of it.

Technically yes but as 5.8 quite rightly points out, it is still a TA and only came as a 4 cylinder. The front is flat and does not have the pointy nose of the LC and LJ series. Good observation though.

I know a fire went through one corner of the land and burnt out all
The fj's.
I work with a guy that's married to one of his relatives ad he said the same thing
Wants an arm and a leg for stuff.
I'll scoot out Saturday and see if he let's me in for a sticky beak to try and get some photos

Local scrappie was paying $70 per complete car and he picked up,month or so back,and incomplete was collecting for free
Now he is paying $40 a tonne and will only collect completes and pay nothin,not interested in collecting incompletes either
Next scrappie after that is 100 Ks away he is paying $80 a tonne
Not worth the effort,either get complete picked up for free,or take to the tip

that old bedford van is the same as the one we had on the farm when i was a kid. it was the first car that i drove , not counting the old fergy tractor.
as a hot rod .... hmmmmm. well it would be something different and it wouldnt matter what you did to the drive train or handling because you could only improve it.

Not sure about anymore army stuff there. I'll be keeping an eye out next year when i go back.
He did recently buy the Chevy on the second last pic from a farm owner near him. He knew about it for years and finally got his hands on it not that long ago.
I did not realise but it's the same truck as the one in the last pic? And the same as the one after the vanpic? Maybe he is doing one up and is using one as a doner for parts?

He gets people knocking on his door asking him if he has any old cars on his station. He used to say yes and show them. But they ended up raping his cars and he clued onto how much parts are worth so now no one gets a look in.

That Torana apparently had an English motor? I was told they were not very good here in oz so that's when Holden put there own motors in?... Something like that.

I love that bakery van. That would have been my choice if I had the opportunity to restore one.

And yes it's very dry.
He's not making any money from his farm now, it's just paying off debts and bills with every harvest. He has other interests that gives him spending money.
His dams are so low compared to last year.

But back to cars.. It's pretty obvious Holden was the go on his farm.

The Torana is a TA model released to fill the void until the Gemini was released, it is infact a face lift of the 4cyl LJ model with body coloured grill highlights and revised taillights.

I had one many years ago, 1760cc OHC, 4speed floor shift, books and with only 12000 genuine miles on it which i picked up for $500 from a farmer.

I always wanted to get one of those four cylinder Toranas with the short nose and make a sleeper out of it by fitting something like a 4AGE or SR20 engine and five speed...people would be expecting it to be the slug with the horrible little original engine in it...

The original old HB Torana was based on the Vauxhall Viva. I've got a photo of a Brabham Special somewhere I saw at a car show...great little car!

I've worked on one of these toranas that was fitted with an sr20, it went like a shower of s*** but handling wasn't its best trait lol

I once picked up a LJ (according to ID plate) 4 cyl Torana complete with GTR dash for $50. $25 for tow $25 for new front ball joint, battery, a bit of fuel & it was driveable. Did a few laps of the block & on sold minus the coinage & many live 22 rounds from under the seats.

Love these farm picks.

its on five acres in the sticks
theres prob over a thousand maybe two thousand cars out there
no one can see it from their back yard while sitting down to a bbq
so not really an eyesore to anyone

Yes, I agree...that old Falcon wagon should be removed...removed to my back yard...and while they're at it I suppose I could take that Mark 2 Zephyr beside it off their hands...just to clean up the eyesore you understand...

It looks pretty damn good!

But look at the mountain of FJ's behind it!!!
