Is it dead? Ive got 2 cars on the market and have had zero intrest in either for weeks. One is my manual au2 xr8 for 5k and the other is a 98 patrol for 10k. Both prices are cheap and still nothing....
Anyone else get the impression its quiet out there? |

There has been over 1 million new cars sold EVERY year for more than the last 10 years.
There is a glut and it wont go away. To sell you have to drop the price until you are at least getting a ph call every couple of weeks.

2 or 0 % finance plus warranty. Why wouldn't you buy a new car. Plus these days you wouldn't be seen dead in anything less that a 3 year old car. :/

I better get a new car then as only one of our cars even has a build date this in the last 10 years The used car market does seem flat ATM and 0% finance isn't helping that at all But as for not wanting to be seen in a car older than three years pft, I can't think of a car under 3 years that I would walk across the road for Infact I'd rather have old mates AU XR8 than the current XR8 and even an AU is too new for me to get a woodie over I just saw this thread http://fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11400244 That's more my seen

Youd make more cash from your XR8 by parting it out.

market is dead.
i tried selling mine a couple grand under market value for 3 months, with no serious enquires. Decided id rather hold onto it and spend some coin upgrading the stereo, because it wasnt worth letting go for any cheaper. Got a call about it after id removed the carsales ad, saying hes been watching it for awhile and was ready to buy. Too late buddy |

people might think 0%finance is good but depreciation isnt and getting 3% on the same money sitting in the bank is better, let the joneses have their own little competition of mines bigger than yours,

It's pretty tough at the moment. Low interest deals for new cars and the real cheap prices for new small cars makes it that way. Too many mums and dads going guarantor for sons and daughters for their first car.

Many need that car for work ,or family commitments For many its easier to pay somewhat a weekly, monthly amount for peace of mind New pulsar were $49 PW,and a new triton is around $125 PW 5 years , basically trade in , the trade value mite pay the ballon residual Then another $49,or $125 PW and do it again .... Sorta like a pay as you go scheme, but never owning out right Is it better to do possibly a few extra hours at work to pay for the new,or is it better to perhaps do a few hours a week fixing a clunker Majority will go new |

Friend at work basically gave his GU Patrol away for $6,000 including gas. VGC. Didn't even bother trying to sell it in this market. We're currently looking for a Santa Fe for the wife. Real buyers market ATM. On a side note couldn't talk her into a Territory.

Depends where you look.
My inlaws were in the market for a B series Falcon to pull their van as the old Jackaroo was starting to cost money. They found an 06 BF1 Futura with 140k's on it in white for 10,880 at a large franchise dealer had been reduced as it wasn't moving. In the next yard I found them an 08 BF2 XT with 125k's in Cashmire for 7990 in much better condition. Needless to say they went the Series 2, then sold the Jackaroo to another yard for $500 more than they were offered by the first dealer. Cars will move, if they are priced appropriately. |

Even the likes of BMW you can get so cheap now. Some of the prices on the sedans and coupes at the auctions have been staggering...........

Its a tough market, you just have to price accordingly and be patient. I have sold 2 cars privately this year and 1 via a dealer trade. The dealer tradein on the last one was 3 kay less then what I wanted for it on carsales so it was easier to trade (this is on a 38 kay car). The other two took about 4 weeks each to sell, priced at what they were worth.
I went to the auctions on Saturday and cars are just over priced, thats why no ones buying... Plenty of offers / bids but they just drive them through.... I have a friend in the industry... Try selling 2011 XR6 sedans for 15 kay!!! thats a car thats 2 years old with a years worth of warranty left, 80,000 kms on the clock and good condition. He says the 0% / low finance has killed the used car market, but it wont last for ever especially the way the dollar is. Hes been doing it for 30 years and has seen it before.

I have been shopping for a car. For over $3,000 and under $7,000 grand in NSW I see more BAs than AU's. I'm having a hard time convincing the wife that I want an older car than a newer one (say 2006 )

Over here the dealers are stuck in a rut, they can't sell to the current market because they bought in too high.
The auctions are doing well because of idiots who want/need to spend more against the dealers. It's a merry go round.................... A few dealers are selling at auction houses near yard costs .

Personally I think people want too much money for second hand cars as you can see how cheap new ones are.
Cars will sell at the right price. |

Good luck with the Patrol. Is it Petrol or diesel ? A mate of mine done 5 hours work with a 12 tonne excavator for a bloke. In return he got a 1996 80 series GLX petrol Landcruiser. Big alloy wheels, roof racks, winch, stereo with the biggest sub woofers you have ever seen, UHF radio and only 214,000ks on it. Even threw in a child safety seat !! Drives like a dream but know one wants them being a thirsty petrol. He has started to part it out. Will make more money out of it that way...........

And these car companies are doing cheap rates because the economy is so bad..... Just like the 0.0 percent rates for mortgages in the U.S that's been happening for 5 years now.... Australia is on the verge of a recession.... If Holden does close its doors they will HAVE to call a recession surely?
