With all these fast Fords & Holdens around in GT's, F6, GTF, GTS etc and XR8 coming plus next years Mustang and hopefully something from Chrysler and Chev making its way to our shores I'm thinking that now would be a great time to brush up on our reason for speeding excuses given to Mr Plod.
I personally like the one that King Billy Coke bottle tells. Officer: "What's your excuse for speeding, dangerous driving and not stopping Morton." Morton: " Well Officer, 2 weeks ago my wife ran off with a policeman and I was afraid you were bringing her back" I don't think it would work but it might help break the ice a bit, besides ya gotta try something. Anyone else got some good ones that are worth sharing or using?? |

Personally I've always just avoided the bull crap and when I've been pulled over and they ask why I was speeding I just say no reason, what can I say, you got me. I've been pulled over three times and it's worked for two of them. The last policeman actually said it was a change not having someone spin him a story.

Why...? If you know you've done it then why make a big deal out of it. Just cop it and move on. I was pulled over twice by highway patrol and once by an unmarked XR6T. The first one got me for 18k's over the limit, he reduced it to 8k's, and the last two let me off. I don't give them crap, they don't muck around, we all leave happy. Pretty simple if you ask me.

It's just a way to get an admission on record.
I wouldn't answer "no comment" to everything as I wouldn't want to look like a dropkick. Not like you are being charged with murder. I simply answer politely. "I wasn't" Got a ticket anyway 5 or so years ago...but was let off with a warning about 10 years ago with that answer. I'd say in most cases you'll be booked by offeicer "speed camera" anyway. |

When I was asked for a valid reason for speeding (12k's over) - I asked the officer for a couple of examples that they'd accept.... Kinda broke the ice & we both had a laugh. Drove away with a warning.

I always find treating cops like they are human works really well. Don't lick their backside and don't give them some bs story.

I also answer "I wasn't" and put the onus on the cop to prove I was and either issue the ticket or not. Mind you, it's a very rare thing now that Constable Kodak has taken on these duties.

I doubt they would accept any excuse unless there is a woman giving birth in the back seat.
But yes be polite and you may get a warning or a reduction, be obnoxious and you will get a speeding ticket, a chipped windscreen ticket, a bald tyre ticket, an illegal modification ticket etc etc. They will keep going until they find something else. |

Just tell the copper that the reason why you were speeding is because you were distracted whilst on your mobile as you wanted to call your friend as you just won a drag race against a Commodore

...........then you get the over zealous tuggers who, no matter what the situation, will pile everything they can on you. My last fine was on the highway. The cop told me I was going 121kph. It was a nice wide open road, clear warm summer evening, nobody but me for miles, I said, "no problem, you got me, sorry" and said I didn't need to see the reading, I believed him, then told him I had no income and we were one of those families that fell between the cracks so were doing it tough and the **** wipe then gave me the ticket for 121 knowing that here in SA 111-120kph is a $260 fine and 121-130kph is $460. He wouldn't even give me the 1kph and then tried to lecture me on the dangers of the roos etc. in the area. At that point I told him that he was not policing for road safety, just revenue raising and that I'd been driving the road since before he was born so just give me the ticket and **** off ya maggot.
Talking to my local cop later about it and it turned out the guy was just filling in for the regular guy in the next town and was known to be a dick, even within the ranks, and didn't have too many allies.

I got out of a ticket on the Hume Highway near Goulburn (Goulburn highway patrol are reputedly some of the most strict).
He asked: "Do you know why I pulled you over?" I answered: "No, but I got here as fast as I could to find out" The officer burst out laughing saying "That's golden". We both had a laugh, and I explained that I'm not going to give him so fanciful story, I was speeding so fair enough. He walked back to his car, I expected him to give me a ticket but he instead gave me a warning, told me to keep it to the limit as there were heaps of police about. I thanked him and wished him a good day. In my experience I've always found, treat police with honesty and respect and they'll return the favour. Saying things like "no comment" are a sure fire way to ensure you'll not only get a ticket, but most likely get your car searched and arouse suspicion.

Short story. I got pulled over once in a completely unroadworthy car, no rego sticker, vehicle not in my name and only one working headlight. Just got a stern warning.
I got lucky no doubt, good Cop bad Cop, but having the right attitude goes a long way. Most of the time when an Officer approaches your car, he`s already made up his mind if you`re getting at least one ticket, or its just going to be a warning to 'pull your head in'. If its the latter, and you`re a smart ***, then have fun working for free for the next few days. Ever had a moment when you see a tard on the road and think love to be a Cop right now? Good Cop in this video .. I`ll put your name on his ticket..lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ap9_jxEr_JA |

They just changed all the speed limits from 75mph to 80mph here, and the cops are raking it in because people now think they can get away with going 90. They even say that to the cops when they get pulled over. Cops say there's no tolerance, but I have been between 80 and 85 and haven't gotten pulled over....yet

I'm not going to give you a transcript of the conversation but I was nothing but respectful and courteous the whole time, even when he made it obvious he wasn't going to cut me any slack, not even 1km. I didn't try to wriggle out of it with BS sob stories etc. He asked me if I worked or was on the dole and I told him the truth, but only after he asked. I'm a house husband these days and my missus brings in the cash, such as it is. It made no difference to his attitude and he made it obvious he didn't give a **** and was enjoying sticking it to me in front of my missus and kids, but like I said, I was courteous, right up till he started pontificating and lecturing me, so yes I gave him a serve. I wasn't going put put up with some self important toss pot 20yrs my junior lecturing me like I'm some naive teenager. I'll show you every respect and courtesy in the world right up till you dis me or make it obvious you're just having a go because you can, then I'll give it back. If you want respect you have to give respect, I don't care if you're wearing a uniform or not.
