I don't know how it is in other states but I just fell under the stupid no V8's, Turbo and Engine Modification rules.
Therefore I had to give up my dream of a XT Fairmont 302 Windsor which did 0-100 in over 10 seconds for the non performance Fairmont which will do a much safer 0-100 in mid sevens (with my new exhaust) My question is what is the fastest p-plate legal cars cutting around excluding ridiculous things such as 80 grand Alfas. I have seen a lot of crappy Lancers cutting around and the new laws have just made the VL epidemic even worse but I have seen a lot of p platers in XR6's and I'm pretty sure manual V6 VN's go pretty hard. So for the p plater bogan out there what is the top dog performace car? I'm thinking if you can pick up a Valiant Pacer pretty cheap your set. Off topic: Mate just picked up a V8 Perkins Commodore and he reckons it puts out 180rwkw. I reckon he's full of shite as a stroked Holden V8 goes nowhere near that anybody know anything about it? |

instead of getting the fastest p plate legal car. get a nice car with leather and pimp it out. 20's, lowered, zorst. get more chicks and more notice rather then a "fast" car. thats my opinion. prolly less likely to get pulled over aswell.

I see these clowns rolling down the strip, doof doof doof, the chicks are lookin, burst of speed, blow off valve, gear change, and youre past em, stereo too loud to hear the girlies holla at ya. Then the realisation on the lads, wait they cant see me now, lets go back, u turn, doof doof doof. But you have the attention span of a gnat, cause youse do it again, and again, and again....
DOOF DOOF DOOF DOOF pfffttt DOOF DOOF DOOF DOOF DOOF DOOF DOOF DOOF DOOF bugger. Sorry, I couldnt help myself, you kids are funny. Now get off my lawn |

people think p-platers are targets.
MOST OF THE TIME THEY ARE BECAUSE OF THEY WAY THEY ACT. i was a p-plater for 3.5 years. in that time i was pulled over a total of 4 times. 1. rbt L-plates, XF Falc 2. mobile phone offense (el falc) 3. speeding offence (el falc) 4. rbt - i was a little nippy at cornering in a quite surburban area (ba falc) whist i was driving a skyline for 12 months, never pulled over. its only when you have done something obvious (big exhaust ect) and you just look guilty!!!! get a nice quick z-tech focus or HO 6cyl probably the most power you will get within p's

Even better idea by a S***box laser. Insure it, bang around for 3 years improving your insurance rating saving big dollars. Then when your off your P's you'll have 3 things 1) A decent insurance rating that will save you big dollars when you can handle a performance car 2) A clean license which goes such a long way 3) A large savings account to buy something a lot better than a VL

fun p plate car e30 325i
1200kg, near perfect weight distribution and 170hp of inline 6 that you can mod to high heavens. 0-100 in 7.4 and light rwd goodness. Engine conversions? pretty much anything from the bmw catalogue.

It is a bit harsh that just becuase its a V8 you cant drive it, especially since as you metnioned, todays V6's are more powerful than the XT V8 you wanted to drive.

Me personaly am ignoring the new P plate laws.
Well not completly. I was going to drop a v8 in my XD but instead of bought a cortina and am building a wild 250 for it but keeping the motor looking stock. The law says "no engine enhancing modifications" So the fact that I got an exhaust system can be argued since it's an exhaust modification not an engine mod the car will still run without an exhaust That's if I ever get pulled over and hassled though. It's too unlike me to drive some pos car around for 3 years. I reckon the new laws are stupid though there's too many holes in them they should've kept the power to weight restriction or better yet some driver training! Cars don't kill people, People kill people. You take one of these media claimed "v8 hoons" and put him in a 1.6L laser he's still going to be a hoon just in a less powerful car.

Sleekism, why would you wanna go any faster when you're already pulling 13.000@200mph in your AU Ghia???

I mean I know my VL 5 Speed isn't a lighting fast car, but it's still faster then a old 253 Commodore, but the 253 is banned. : I think they (The government) really need to get their heads around "It's a V8, so it's going to be automatically Ferrari material". As said a number of times before, a modern 6, hell even most N/A 4s would dust these old beasts, yet they're perfectly legal. |

i'd be looking at xr6 falcons. A manual AU or EL or a BA if you can afford one. This is going to be faster then most cars in this class. I've noticed a few non-turbo imports like supras and skylines the falcon would own these.

Yes, 5 speed ef/l or BA go like the clappers for what they are. Go 5 speed like I did with the full Mock kit, eats V8 VN manuals and WRX for breaky, but pulls no attention if the car looks stock and the engine looks stock apart from the Xtractors.

Renaultsport Clio 172. With ease.
1035kg, 124kW @ 6250rpm, 200Nm @ 5400rpm 2.0L 4-cyl, 7250rpm redline, five-speed manual. 0-100km/h in 6.5 sec, capable of a 14.7-14.9 sec 1/4 with a better driver, average in the 15.0-15.2 range. Tops out at 220. And handles like its on rails. For under 20k. Unbeatable in general for the money, but especially for NSW P-Platers. And I just found a wildly low km cheap example... http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars..._id=80&trecs=4 Being an 03, that one would have ESP (Electronic Stability Program). Top buy for 17.6k. **BTW** The above times are tested by overseas publications. From experience the car is faster then any EB to AUIII XR8, VX SS, Honda S2000, any FWD Type R Honda including the sissy new Civic, hoses the ****y Corolla Sportivo, EB/EL GT's, any VN-VT SS etc, S14 & S15 200SX, any pre-03 (168kW) WRX etc. Has the same power-to-weight ratio as the old Rover engine powered Lotus Elise.
