WTF i know its because its a honda but this is rediculous.... she could kill herself allot quicker in my car than that ****y honda :

Sounds like your g/f needs to thank all the similar people with similar cars who have made the insurance companies very wary about offering cover to her.

Must have been a lot of 19yo females crashing honda accords for the last decade!!

Unless she has speesing fines or previous claims etc which are working against her, in which case i'd say 'tough luck'.

Also Honda's are not Australian built cars. I wanted to buy an Integra Type R and it cost more to insure than a Monaro CV8. I believe country of origin has some effect on premiums. It would be a lot easier and cheaper to get parts for your Falcon than it would for the Accord in general.

damn thats expensive!
has she had driving offences or accidents, which may be why its so expensive?
for a car that age I wouldnt be looking at full comprehensive insurance. maybe third party, fire & theft insurance, would be a much cheaper option for her.

The insurance fee is worth the value of the car.

Have you tried looking at other insurance companies?

I had a colleague at Uni who tried to insure his VP Commodore (at 26 years of age) and one company quoted him for like 3000 comprehensive at rating six, despite having a clean record.

ANother company whacked 1000 off and gave him a rating 3 or 4 (don't remember).

So it pays to shop around.

yea i have looked around at many other insurance companies all vary between $2500-3000... she has no driving offences or previous claims.. which is why i dont understand that a 4L 5speed with 150KW is half the price of a 2.2L Auto 4cyl... doesnt make sense

I know how you feel, it was more expensive for me to insure my stock ED Gli 4.0, than it was to insure my mildly modified 5.0 NC Fairlane. I didn't have any claims or offences...

I guess the solution is to sell the honda and get a ford:P But im biased...

I still think the most ridiculous is GIO. $4,300 p/a for a 17 year old with no driving history (Ref. to my signature for specs). I went with NRMA for $2,100.

Paying $3100 to insure the Focus.

Cheapest I could get it next year(when I turn 20) would be around $2200 and thats putting my GF with perfect driving record as the youngest driver. It would still be 2800 if I just put myself.

Yes, but the catch is here is that GIO will whack off 40% or 60% off if your parernts are insured with them... they just have high prices so they can offer a huge discount....

You kidding me. I'm paying $3355 for MY03 WRX with wheels and stereo, and I'm 19 and a rating 4. Perfect driving history.

:

I'm paying just over $300 for comprehensive insurance for my EL Falcon for a year. Living in the country helps a little bit.

The XE is $170 3rd party fire and theft for a year.

The Peugeot is just under $600 for comp insurance for the year.

why doesnt she just have third party fire and theft? Seems crazy to pay $3000 for a car worth $10000 or $15000 or whatever.

I wouldnt and dont bother insuring anything comprehensively when the cost is around 5% or more of the value. Thats about my figure. Ive got a 1 year old BMW bike worth $14,000 and wouldnt even dream to insure that. The best I could do was around $2200. No way. I'll just have third party for $150 and pay for my own damage. (unlikely). Right offs arent that common. Pulling figures out of the air.. perhaps 5% of crashes write cars off? For the other 95% if it was my fault I'd fix the damage myself cos its not likely to be major. Dont forget the huge excesses you have to pay with insurance too.

Now, sadly I did drop my bmw motorbike going off a gutter at about 20kmh.... lol, If it was insured for a year there goes $2200, plus there goes $400+ for the excess. I scratched 2 painted parts, cracked another, broke 2 blinkers and my clutch handle. It cost a grand total of $130 to fix to back pristine condition. It was my fault, so if I had insurance my premium would have gone up as well. Insurance really doesnt seem to work out for me. I have all the spray gear and anything else I could need to do repairs.

19, 1 at fault acco, 1 insurance claim, bad bad part of Sydney.

Having bought it with a loan, it adds $6-700 onto the yearly premium

Holy Crap, those figures suck......
I pay $300 for full comp. on my work ute
And it's less that $1000 for my XAGT Coupe, with an agreed value of 100k on full comp.

Im driving a Japanese built car (2000 subaru) and all I pay is $600 per year, rating 1 with AAMI. I also get free windscreen cover per year and cheap car rental hire ($10 per day) in case of an accident.

If she is getting charged in the thousands for a early 90's car then she is getting ripped.

NRMA wanted $3,800 p/a for comprehensive on my ED Ghia.

The car only cost me $3,100.

aami wanted 2800 for the honda and 1500 for my ea.... which is twice as big... twice as fast and i cant see how they justify that ... maybe yes honda parts are more expensive... but thats wat we pay insurance for... for the incase of an accident... there is no need to be ripping people off like that.. i mean it will cost me 2800 to insure my ea if i turbo it or charge it.. but thats understandable... if your looking at the 200-300 kw factor... but not on a 4 cyl accord

and we also live in brisbane ... in a nice area too.. so theres no chance of theft or damage.. pus its garagd( option was on quote)...
just retatded
