Default Anyone see the Holden Promo

It was on the TV this morning, all about the New Holden. It was like an hour long advertisment. God help us.

I counted 20 times they mentioned the "Billion Dollar Investment" in the new model.

$998,000,000- Advertising Budget
$1,000,000- Clay modelling of Australias ugliest body shape
$1,000,000 - Importing the all American Engine

Now I'm not anti Holden, in fact there are many model I really liked and heaven forbid, I nearly bought one myself, but who are they trying to kid with such claims.

: i watched the only model i probably like its the SSV but i just find it hard to accept the big back chassie the VE commodore have. It just saying how well its handle, what engine the car run, they sound like spend so much on re-shaping the VT commodore

they said 1 billion dollars were invested into the car, design etc. yet 500 million dollars was for re-tooling the plant so it really wasnt a Billion dollars spent on design after all.
ford spent 500 million dollars on the BA, Holden spent 500 million on the VE. what makes it such a great thing that holden spent the same dollars?

i just wish ford would do something similar to shoot holden down. im sick of hearing about how "great" the v-series is when in reality it has just as good (bad?) if not worse fuel consumption compared to previous models, had at least 3 re-calls in the first 6 months, and looks likle its been hit with the ugly stick repeatedly. dont get me wrong, i too have liked some of the holden designs, but this one tops the ugly list. and why is it that all of a suden everyone wants to use ESP? it used to be Extra Sensory Perception, now its used on all sorts of crap. heres one for holden to use...FUBAR: F'd Up Beyond All Recognition. dont forget that all they have really done is taken the design from bmw, imported from europe (OPAL to be exact) kept Opal's base model name (OMEGA) and re-badged it as Holden, and bought american drive-line components including the engine. the reason they spent half a billion on the plant is for show so that everyone would think they did all the hard work. Hence another quality GMH product. my guess is the other 100,000,000 they didnt spend on the car, they spent on that eye sore they call a blimp. thats a waste of money, you can barely read it of a day time if the sun is in the wrong position. i work just around the corner from a holden dealer, and the blimp spent half the arvo circling the area, and you were able to read the advertising on the screen for about 10% of the time due to the sun reflecting off the screen the other 90%. hmmmm, what a waste.

I am sure Ford will do something similar when they have a story to tell.

I didn't see all of it but I was wondering how on earth a car that cost this much to develop has rear bars that don’t match?

Unless Tasmania is a Holden reject state I am yet to see a VE that has a close paint match on the rear bar. Some aren't even remotely close even at a distance. I thought paint technology was meant to be getting better. My BF is worse then the BA and I don’t think there is any comparison between VE and the earlier Holden’s. They easily have the worse paint match on the road. If it did cost 1 billion they should have spent another 500m on a decent paint process.

I recently saw a HSV R8 displayed as the prize in a raffle, and under the shopping centre lights it showed the plastic filler piece that HSV's have above the repositioned taillights and the rear bar to be at least 2 shades darker silver than the quarter panel. Ford and Holden have the same problems.

I don't recall seeing a single Omega in that propaganda show. Even Holden must be ashamed of its looks. Seemed to be only showing the SSV.

Yep that’s what I am talking about red silver doesn't seem to matter. Ford isn't that far out. Red BF Xr6 next to a Red omega is a huge difference. The Holden bars are a long way out. The Holden made the Ford match look good. I am not being silly about this they have a real issue with their rear bar.

If you check out the car sales you can actually pick the difference off the pictures and that’s saying something. They seem to show up in a greater range of lighting conditions for what ever reason.

Saw the best VE yesterday. Calais V with different wheels and exhaust. Really nice car shows off the proportions better but it had a rear bar that was so dull compared to the rest of the car. Guess he spent probably 60k on this car only to have it look like a third rate Body Works had patched the rear end. Really spoilt the car.

With my BF when the lighting conditions are right it can look like the handles don’t match the car or the rear bar doesn't match part of the rear quarter. But at least there are parts of the car in the same view that make you question it. The Holden’s don’t seem to offer that. No question they just look dull /dark compared to the rest of the car.

That they do. They have some very good marketing people, always have. In fact, they could make a clay model of an American t*rd and the Holden marketing machine would be able to sell it as an all Australian gold bar.

Ford could learn a lot from Holden’s marketing department.

Ford is in the commanding position at the moment, but it has to produce a car that not only looks good, but also does big, soft smelly poos on the Holden Commodore in the mechanical sense.

Forget all the crap around V8 supercars...fact is that Ford need to market the car for the real Australian family and appeal to fleets as well.

How...that's what the employees at Ford are paid to do. It's time they earn their cash!
