Question Shelf life of oil

Hey Guy`s
Is there a shelf life for oil ????
I buy Havoline Fully Sinthetic Oil in a 20l drum through my truck account for about $190 and get 3 oil changes out of it, I do both my BA ute and the Bosses ( wife ) Territory. I was going to do oil and filter today and started pumping the oil into a smaller container for pouring and noticed the oil was pale and cloudy, it did come good after a few pumps but I`m still not to keen to use it. Its packing date is 01/07 and was last used about 6 months ago.
What do you think????

Cheers Greg

Sounds like it might have a bit of water contamination....

Do you leave the pump in the oil drum?
Do you leave the oil drum in a hot humid shed?
With contraction of an oil drum/ or for that matter the good old 5 litre petrol tin, it can cause a vacumm and "suck" moisture out of the air.

I would not imagine this is the case if the answer to the above is you take the pump out and seal the drum.

P.S Fuel tins with caps do "breath" unlike an oil drum cap.
