You shouldnt need to do too much to it as long as you have owned it for more than the last 12 consecutive months and that it is made before 1989. Bringing it in as a personal import is the best way. This is a good site and can help with questions

Thanks for reply! Yes ive been on that site, Im I reading it wrong as it says if I owned the car for move than 1 year and its older than 1989 it does not need a compliance??
I emailed 6 garages in nsw! They want to charge me $2000/4000 aus for the compliance but they will NOT tell me what will be needed?????
is this normal?

I have known of a few people from the UK that have done it.
One of them had one of his vehicle go "missing" from the docks in UK.

There's a fair bit involved in getting it sent from UK to here ... with insurance and dock fees and the like as well.

from my understanding though ... you need to contact the state traffic authority (whichever state you wish to go to) and get further details from them as I think you need to apply for personal import through them.

This will tell you how to gain import approval.

Call NSW RTA or whatever they call themselves these days to find out about pre 1989 compliance requirments.

Question Re: Importing cars from the uk.

Hey guys thanks for replies!.
i emailed and called the nsw RTA but will not give any info?
I have email compliance engs do not email back?
have emailed chalker guys the say its $2000 for the compliance and $2000 for the side impact bars! But can not tell me what other ADRS will affect my vehicle!
Its a lot of money to spend just to find out my vehicle will never pass the compliane!.
A big move yes but worth it I hope!! I moved to canada in 2007 and the car went with me! No messing around just daytime running lamps and amber and red reflectors to the side, the inspection was $200, and they have remove all wheels and measure the brake lining thickness and thickness of the brake discs and brake drums! Which is all included in that price!
whats it like in NSW since they changed the laws on car mods?
Any guys run into problems yet?.

It used to be a bit easier .... but still have to jump through hoops to get through RTA/RMS

a mate of mine brought over a 3 door Astra GSi with a hell of a lot of mods (was the only one here in Australia at the time. Still needed Engineer's reports and bits and pieces ... due to it's age though and being a personal import it was easier-ish.
