What a lazily written article, short on any actual info. And it’s hardy a “shock” that a car buyer may consider a hybrid/electric drive train.

This is exactly the type of research that leads to great headlines and no change; ie focus group versus retail sales.
In my work I see this in reports of a surge in Natural / Organic products versus traditional Health & Personal Care products. When asked the question people will provide an idealized answer, particularly in a group session; when faced with an actual purchase they will stick with what they know.

Buyers might consider going electric, then they see the price tag, and the poor designs (most of them), and the limited range of some of them, and then they walk away.
Proof is in the sales figures. |

And this is only going to accelerate the interest. Whilst this is very impressive & reminds me of brake fluid burnouts on the electric forklifts at work, there is something just wrong with no engine noise.

Nah I reckon there's some truth to it. i can't recall a time where the new vehicle market has been less inspiring - dual cabs top of sales, SUV biggest segment and hardly any of them have proper AWD, Commodore is fwd, cars being reviewed based on their tech infotainment, death of manual gearbox, Corolla leads sales: faced with such blandness, why not go electric? After all, the Tesla SUV smokes most performance cars in the straight line.
Also, so many have solar so a plug in Phev or full EV means no more paying Mr Oil Co. This in itself is liberating, and goes back to the original freedom cars represented.

Same. My lease is up in a few months, and I've decided to get a buzzbox runabout, and buying something older but with more character as a weekend car.

Test drove a MY18 Mustang yesterday with the active exhaust, an electric car will never be in my garage while we still have cars that sound like the new Mustang does.

Saying that people would "consider" something is hardly earth-shattering. When we last bought a new car, we would have happily bought a Prius if it were priced similarly to a Lancer or Hyundai, but they're not. If and when an Electric car can match the range, refuelling, and price of a petrol, we'll probably buy one. (Although I expect to be dead before that happens.) |

I've already bought them Daz - the solar cells sit above the garage housing my V8 fuel-into-fun converter. Home battery costs coming down quickly.
As for electric, hybrid now at that 20k price range (new Corolla) trade for runabout electric in 2021 at same price range, and the providers will include Toyota, VW, Ford, GM - they are all racing into this. You dont have to be a wowser NIMBY hippy hypocrite to see where its going. Bonus: 37c a litre fuel tax to govco then optional - that will be more sticking it to the man

I can pretty much guarantee my VF V8 family wagon (that I rarely get to drive anyway) will be replaced with a hybrid of some sort - those new Volvo's look the biz - and something older and noisier for a weekend car. Win Win.

how is this news?
Of course aussies are going to not buy Ev’s due to range anxiety issues more than anything else. And it’s not news about diesel it’s a mixture of the torque delivery and fuel economy which has gained converts. Aussies have never been one for cars which are gutless |

When looking to buy an Uber-mobile for her indoors, I narrowed it down to either Camry Hybrid or Mondeo TD. Their popularity with squandering government departments and local govts ensured a steady supply of Hybrids onto the 2nd hand market at reasonable prices. So at the right price, why not consider them.
But see, this is the joke. I'm not a techophobic Neanderthal, I'm not biased against Hybrids or even EVs. When they are fit for purpose, and fit the budget, I'm happy to consider them. But those biased in favour, who buy them just because, and even when it makes no financial sense, in some mistaken belief they are saving Dolphins and Pandas, are idiots. |

I'm sure half the population would consider a Hybrid since it's not really a compromise at all for day to day driving.
But I bet people who would seriously consider a full electric vehicles are right down in a low single digits. Did I miss that or did they not say how many people would consider an electric car. |
