I was just going through some Ford PR stuff and found this gem in their Flickr album - is it the anticipated 3-door hatch replacement???
Discuss... IMO, I hope so! It looks really good - even if it is just half a clay model!!! |

How old is the pic though...
There have been a few models/concepts over the years that have been referred to a "capri" but nothing solid.

No... Don't think so - the side looks to short to be a 5-door hatch and look at the angle of the rear window compared to each other...

Not implying that it's a Lincoln, I think it could possibly be the new Coupe Cabriolet but maybe there's a Lincoln version planned for later on.... |

Definitely no three-door hatch coming, but I'd bet on a Capri. This is the 'new' Ford where they want to get as much out of a platform as possible, but even then a three-door Focus is pointless when the Fiesta easily fills that spot. Seems logical to then bring back the Capri, here's hoping...

Three-door hatches are stagnant in the US with only 7% of Focus sales being with three-doors, and sales of the three-door Focus have been on the way out for the past few years in Europe. There is no three-door Fiesta in China which is an indication a bigger Focus wouldn't work with less doors. Considering these are major markets for the next Focus, there really was no hope for a three-door. Fiesta owners (in Europe anyway) still want the three-door though. The size of the car still dictates that the three-door configuration is still relevant. The Focus is getting to be a huge car, and having two less doors would't have worked. Sure, RS and ST models would have sold well with three-doors, but everyone else seems to want to pay $500 more for extra convenience, which in the Focus also equates to better looks IMHO (not always the case though). A coupe however, with three-doors is still bloody relevant, so here's hoping the Capri gets the green light! Europe would lap that up!
