Default determing value of older car

as the title suggests im after a way to determine what a cars value actually is.

the old man has a LJ Torana in original condition. 4 door, 3 speed column shift manual ect
its currently insured with Shannons for X amount.

i believe due to it being "rare" as in good nick, original (it still has original stickers ect), non modified, that its worth a lot more.

how do you go about determining how much it is worth? Do shannons come look at it, independent inspection ect.

What is the value for. Selling, insurance or just wanting to know.

If it is for sale, look around see what others are for sale and work out a price.

If for insurance, speak to the company and see what they can do.

If we are talking insurance all Shanons required of me was to email them photos to agree on the value.

I also sent my insurance company photos and details of my GT and asked them to look at the ones for sale and to value my car at what I could replace it for. They ended up increasing the value of the car $15k.

As above. Look around at what other people are asking.

Obviously there are not many LJ's around so perhaps look at cars of equal desirability from other manufacturers.

If your dad is with Shannons and the amount is an "agreedvalue" its up to your dad to decide just how much he wants to insure it for.

I dunno about now, but when i got my car with shannons I just said i want to insure it for this amount and that was it. No photos needed...

Last time I asked Shannons about increasing the coverage on my '69 Javelin they wanted me to drive it to Melbourne to be inspected (I live in regional Vic). Too much a pain so it still remains undervalued. :(

Shannons have an agreed value limit of $30,000 unless you take it to them to be inspected so they can judge if it's worth more. Or at least that's the deal I was given when I insured the GT through them a few years ago. I'm not sure if that limit applies to certain makes of vehicles or not, probably best just to give 'em a ring to ask.

Get an independant inspection/valuation and Shannons will accept that. I've done it for a number of cars. Small cost (relative to the extra insurance cover you'll receive) and it keeps everyone happy.

PM me if you want more info.
