Default Something interesting arrived in the mail today...

I bought my F6 back in December 2011, and I got the keys, the car, the handbook and off I went. I didn't get an 'FPV Drive Day' form or anything but as it was a demo I thought I must have only got that buying brand new... 1 year and 9 months later, this turned up in the mail:

I'm not annoyed, I'm not even slightly miffed as I didn't even know I should have gotten any of this stuff. I'm torn because as some of you know I was looking at selling the car which, due to lack of interest, I've put off for now... however, it would be a nice little extra to offer the FPV drive day to the new prospective owner.

Do I do it myself or would an FPV drive day be enough to make someone want it more than the rest on the market?

That being said, this owner would sure like to do it too!

Yes theres has been some complication with these things.

From my understanding dealers now get these sent to them direct and they are supposed to supply with the car upon delivery!

Don't forget to order your free gifts! Did they give you a key ring with it?

Least Rod Barrett signed it!

If your still thinking of selling it, if the drive day thing is still valid it might be worth a bit of extra value to the prospective new owner, after a couple of years of owning it you would be well aware of the capabilities of the F6, i think if it was me i would sell it with the limo in the hope of a bit more coin.

I'd kill for a chance to thrash an F6 around a track, so if it were me I'd get out there and give it a go! What do the young kids say these days? Yolo? Go have some fun

Not much thrashing goes on a FPV drive day. They are very sedate.

If you don't do it you'll most likely always look back on it with regret.
One of a kind experience worth a few extra dollars?
I don't think so.
Have fun!

What does happen? Interested to know now, thought it was a general "punt your car around a track" type thing.

Sell it with the car, like you said might spark extra interest. If you want to do a track day pay the $100 and take it to your local track and really let loose!

It's worth $300-$500 to do a similar day through an advance driving course (not defensive driving course). After doing a few of these myself I would personally sell it with the car, as a point of difference compared to all the other FPV/HSV that are on sale 2nd hand.

However, if you've never done such a course and don't see yourself doing one in the future, do it yourself, the first couple were awesome, after a while they all teach the same thing, until you step up to the Race craft courses (which unless you actually race cars can be dangerous knowledge to practice on the streets).

Plenty of thrashing happened on my drive day. Although there were a few babying their cars.

The course is quite informative and will teach you a few things you may not already know about these cars. It will also give you an environment to push your cars limits and then how to deal with it.
One of the best things of the day though was boosting the cars hard, turning tyres and not having to worry about who is watching. Its fun.
Resale is debatable, you didnt realise you were going to get it so its highly likely a new owner will be the same.

With ford going under, I'd be thinking that these drive days would have an expiry on them. And when you go to sell the car, may not be available because Ford have cut the funding in this area.

I'd say use it, while you can, because there is no guarantee that you will be able to use it later, or the next owner will be able to after selling it. And if I were him I wouldn't be happy that the drive day was sold with the car & no longer offered. And I payed extra for that experience. Not happy Jan.

Not that I would pay extra for a drive day anyway.

Points to consider.

When my brother bought his the "Drive Day" was just an Advanced driving course run by John Bowe Driving, while he said it was a lot of fun it wasn't like a track day, it was more of an instructional thing.....

That was 3+ years ago tho, not sure what they do now........

Thats basically still the same set up. There are 4 instructional elements to the day. A brake and swerve exercise, Slaloms, Wet track skid control with and without traction control and a Motorkhama course to put it all together. Its timed runs with TC on and off and winner for the day with a the best averaged times. Then you are let loose on the track for an hour or so with little input from the instructors. They offer hints and tips with high speed runs (if you want) as well as marshalling distance between cars. There will be a chicane set up on the straight so nobody can get to wild but towards the end of the session the cones will be knocked over. You can really go hard if you want, just make sure you have some distance between the cars and if you crash, well thats your fault.

God when I did mine it was so much fun, we spent more time doing power slides and controlled burn outs and learning how to control the car "if" it got away from us, how to control over and under steer, also from a dry straight into a wet corner......floor it and power out of it side ways SO MUCH FUN!!!!! slalom course was 1/2 wet and on a skid pan, time trials, and then about 2 hours racing...proper flat out racing around the track.

I also forgot to say that I still have the small scratch's from over steering and backing it into the tyre wall (rear right hand side)

Do it! Sounds like it would be a bit of fun. It's a day out with a difference, take the Mrs with a camera and go out for a feed afterwards.

If I was ever in the market for a used F6, I wouldn't be expecting to get the track day - I'd just want a one in great condition that had been looked after. I don't see the track day as a value added selling point.

Cheers!

Well when I did mine it was very sedate, did some power slides, braking exercises and a motorkana, nothing I would call too exciting really, was fun, but nothing I did not really know already, and then some 'cruising' around the track, would not call it racing, just a run around the track max speed allowed was around 120-140km/hr which is nothing in these cars.

Was fun, but would not consider it thrashing the car around a track, no helmets and safety gear required, so they can't allow you to go too hard. Every other track day I have done required fire extinguishers, helmets etc

If you never done a track day (I had done a few) it's worth doing, no good keeping it for someone else who might never get to do it anyway, pretty sure there is a time limit on these and they won't be running them much longer.

Been to track days where you can go as hard as you want and they were fun, reaching speeds of around 180-200km/hr but thats another story.

PS I was one of the last to do it at the Old Oran Park Raceway

Perfect opportunity to throw up some photos

This. Big selling point compared to others.

What a load of BS that it takes so long, whatever the excuse.

That's the thing I've noticed with driver training, no helmets required. My missus did one at QR some years ago and they were driving the full circuit and full tilt. Yet no helmet??

To say that at driver training they don't go too hard, isn't true always.

But to the OP, I'd say do it.

Yeah after seeing the responses I think I'm just going to do it

Hadn't thought about it but it's true, they'll probably cut funding or something else will happen that will render it invalid. Filling it out tonight, thanks for the feedback everyone!

Will make sure to get the Mrs along to take some photos, also have a dashcam which I'll use on the day

Hell theres hope still that i'll get mine then.
I got no certificate or anything when i bought my F6 in december 2011, when i confronted the dealer (maughan thiem ford/fpv) i got told that fpv no longer gave a certificate of authenticity and drive day with there cars from july 2011onwards sales

Ahh well maybe I got the last of them? Mine is July build (from memory) and as stated earlier I bought it as a demo. Still, I was VERY surprised when I got a call from the wife saying "black FPV folder"... I thought the dealership had accidently kept my log book or something

If that's the case then they need to update there website....

FPV wants you, the driver, to perform with total confidence and that's why every new FPV owner is invited to participate in the FPV Performance Drive Day*. FPV is the only Australian company that offers this advanced driving course, run by John Bowe Driving, as part of the ownership experience.

*The FPV Performance Drive day is available only to customers who have purchased a new FPV in Australia. Terms and conditions apply – see owner's compendium for full details.
Edit: Although that website don't look like it's had any attention for a while Lol....

I bought mine second hand and it came with that folder with the Cert of Auth plus a FPV golf bag offer in it. But the drive day form was removed, obviously had been used lol.

At the very least, I'd make a pro copy, of the blank drive day form, so the booklet looks authentic.

(personally, I'd leave the drive day un-claimed.)
Kinda like when someone sells a vintage game console, or other appliance, still in the original box, with the instructions, and all the packaging too.
They always sell for a motza.
