Default What would you pay for these?

Hi All

I'm off to a Pickles auction on Thursday to pick up a Falcon/Futura/Fairmont and am wondering what you guys think these are roughly worth in average to good condition. I'm really keen on the low km Futura.

feb/03 BA fairmont, 26000kms - i set my limit at $18,000
sep/04 BA futura, 9900km - $19,500
may/03 BA futura, 33000km - $17,000
apr/03 BA falcon xt, 30000km - $16,500
aug/04 BA futura, 22000km - $17,500
oct/03 BA fairmont, 9500km - $19,750
oct/03 BA fairmont 18000km - $19,000

I'm pretty sure I'll get one of the above within my limit - what would you go for? Do any of my limits seem unrealistic?

Adam

Fairmonts maybe a little unrealistic, I would expect them to make 20 ish if not 22. The rest are about right tho, except for the low kay Futura, it would probarly bring about 22 aswell.

Nice, thanks for the advice. I'll have a crack at it and see how it goes - there are about 30 BA's at this auction in Darwin (there are usually less than half that number) so I'm hoping there will be a bargain to be had.

Check out http://www.redbook.com.au/ and source some prices first, atleast then you know the real ballpark figures you are looking at as a MAXIMUM bid. It also might be an idea to attend a few auctions before hand to get a feel for what the traders are paying for them, as I guarantee it will likely be a hell of alot less then that maximum bid.

feb/03 BA fairmont, 26000kms
sep/04 BA futura, 9900km - $19,500 (dealer price prob around 16-17)
may/03 BA futura, 33000km - $17,000 (15ish)
apr/03 BA falcon xt, 30000km - $16,500 (12,500 to 15,550)
aug/04 BA futura, 22000km - $17,500 (16ish)
oct/03 BA fairmont, 9500km - $19,750 (17-18)
oct/03 BA fairmont 18000km - $19,000 (16,500 to 19000)

Depends on the day. but yeah check out the cars and dont get too wrapped up in it all. :Reverend:

These are my guesses from going to auctions (private and dealer)

Most of the dealers will probably becomming from interstate and you will find these cars in QLD, NSW and Melb lol

How good value are fairmonts then? All the luxury of a Fairlane at a XT price.

Also vehicle within 2 years of age will sell at a dealer for about $5000 more.
You will save money, no doubt.
Find out as much about it's history as possible. Also get there as soon as the gates open and go striaght to the cars, go right through it and look thoroughly. You don't want other peoples problems!!

I bought from a pickles auction - definately saved money.

Good advice is to really check the cars out - and even target one or two - otherwise with how fast they push through the cars, you'll get lost in it all.

Look at the log books (can see what companies owned them), etc. You cant drive them - but here in Brisbane you could start them. Id do that - foot on the brake/handbrake on - just select drive and reverse. Make sure there are no nasty clunks and whirs. Thats about all you can do really.

And good luck!

Let us know what you picked up.

My mate justpicked up an '03 BA Futura with 65,000kms on the clock, for 16,750.
Nice car, just needed a new tailight ($100) and that was it.
Also, had Traction control and side airbags as extra's.

Great bargain, if you have the time, defiantely go check out the auctions!

Last month a Falcon XT with 20,000kms on it went for 16K and a similar mileage Fairmont went for about 18K..

I hope I can be so lucky again....

Will let you know what I pick up as the auction is on Thursday.

Went and inspected today and decided to go for this one

may/03 BA futura, 33000km

it was in far better condition than even the 9000km old 04 model. brand new tyres and it was tinted.

auctioneer said they expect it to go for ~ $17.5k so I have upped my limit on this one to $19k just in case.

With pickles the pre auction prices are usually a reasonably good indicator of the sale prices. Have a search on their site.
